[Miscellaneous] Feeling impotent with a terrible Dermatology disease.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm a 18 years old Vietnamese girl. Today I want to share with everyone that I've suffered from genetic parakeratosis and psoriasis on my scalp and forehead for 9 years..My skin is always dry and itchy with dead skin peeling off so much; it even bleeds a little bit sometimes. It not only makes me uncomfortable but also ill-looking. The disease is getting worse day by day, because of the harsh climate of Vietnam and my stressful life. I've tried a lot of therapies, from Oriental medicine to Western medicine, but the disease is still not relieved. Everyone says my disease will never be cured which makes me depressed, but I always keep hoping that one day I will be healed. Because I'm still young, I don't wanna have low self-esteem, I wanna party. So I came here to ask for advice about treatments for my disease (e.g: medicine, shampoo, cream,...). I really want to heal it or make it don't spread out, that's enough. Thanks everyone so much!(My English isn't really good so forgive me if something goes wrong)

[B & A] [Shelfie] I went to work without any makeup for the first time ever today and I wish my mom was around to see it.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
http://imgur.com/gallery/iDHhRq1(I have no pictures of my skin at it's worst because I never wanted to see them. I took a few pics when I started Tretinoin which I've posted below with an updated picture.)Long story short - I've had bad acne since elementary school.  I remember in 4th grade, classmates asking me what was on my face because I was the only one who had already started developing it.  I started wearing liquid foundation in 7th grade because I was too embarrassed to go to school with pimples.  It was my mom's and didn't match my skin tone, and I'm sure I looked even more foolish, but I was so self-conscious of my skin.  Every day from 7th grade on I wore makeup.  I wouldn't even go to the grocery store without it.  I tried various over the counter things and the dermatologist.  But as a young person, I had difficulty staying on regiments and developing a skincare routine.  When I was about 20 I tried Accutane.  It made me miserable and I didn't finish.  I couldn't bare the dry skin and  not being able to wear makeup I felt I so desperately needed.  Now, at the age of 29, I went back to a dermatologist.  I was prescribed Doxycycline and Tretinoin 0.1% on 2/14/18.  4 months later and I feel so much better about my skin.  FINALLY!  It's an emotional moment for me because my mom, who watched me struggle through my bad skin and tried tirelessly to help me and make me feel better about myself, passed unexpectedly when I was 22.  I wish I could share my happiness with her.  I feel like she is the only one who would understand how amazing this feels for me.  My best friend and boyfriend are supportive, but my mom was there when I was in elementary, middle, high school and college.  She saw my depression and my anxiety and my tears.  She made my dermatology appointments when I was a teenager.  Maybe it sounds silly for me to shed tears at something so simple as clear skin, but it is such a bittersweet feeling. I actually had the confidence to show my natural face to my co-workers today. That is almost unfathomable to me!With that being said, I still have ways to go. While my breakouts have nearly subsided, I'd like to enhance the texture of my skin. My dermatologist had instructed me to move from taking my Doxycline every day, to every other day, and eventually I'll stop taking it. She would like to virtually release me from services at my next visit as long as everything is okay and I'll continue to utilize my Tretinoin.http://imgur.com/a/6bzzkAH

[MISC] products that shouldn't be used together?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've looked through the sidebar so apologies if I've missed it, but I'm wondering if it would be helpful to get a sticky or something on what products shouldn't be mixed?I'm a skincare noob, so I've been adding things to my routine but have only realised from reading through threads that, for instance, vit c shouldn't be used with niacinamide, and it made me wonder what other products should not be used together, or cancel each other out. Would that be a helpful discussion to have?

[Personal] Tired of being insulted at wellness places

Beauty Tips For Body Care
In my experience, many wellness workers, such as hair stylists, facialists, and personal trainers, will insult you when you procure their services.I got a facial in Chinatown, and I have pretty good skin. It's clear, fairly even, and my pore aren't huge. When I was leaving, the facialist remarked that I have blackheads and should come every 2 weeks. I'm grown so I just smiled and nodded but really, I was thinking, "what a bitch".Yes, I may have blackheads, but they aren't all that bad. Plus, I don't earn my living with my face, so what if I have blackheads? I just really hate this concept that wellness workers have where they insult you to make you come back. Like hair stylists who insult your old hair cut or say something bad about the quality of your hair. Same for personal trainers who talk shit about your fitness. I find it so tiring. I'm not a professional model or athlete, so who cares?I find this attitude really different than if you shop somewhere like Nordstorm, where the stylists will say something nice, no matter what. It makes the experience much better.

[Misc] Some thoughts on our favorite topic, selfies!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So it's clear that selfies are a very sensitive and controversial topic, and although they don't personally bother me I can see why people would feel that they don't contribute much with the absence of a before pic for reference. I don't necessarily think that it is fair to limit participation of certain people on this basis, but I respect the opinion and I understand it.But, what I do not understand is why when an attractive man with beautiful skin posts a selfie he is bombarded with praise and positivity, yet when an attractive woman does the same she is more often than not subjected to incredibly rude comments and hostility. This double standard suggests that to me at least that for some the selfie backlash is rooted in catty anger at women with the audacity to share photos of themselves, rather than the idea that a selfie with no "before" pic isn't of much use.If the issue with selfies is truly about whether or not they are useful, then why the huge disparity in reactions here? I totally understand that we get a limited amount of male and minority participation here, so it's really cool when someone outside the usual demographic shares. But, is it really so hard to be kind and encouraging to everyone, including women who, yes, also post for attention because they are excited and happy about their skin?Edit: I suppose the main point I'm trying to make is that if the beef with selfies is all about them not being valuable contributions to the sub, let's just keep expectations consistent and treat all people who post them equally regardless of their sex, age, race, attractiveness, etc!
