[PSA] Patch Testing - Just Do It!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
We see a lot of posts here 'what's causing this break out, i've added this this and this'.....patch testing is highly recommended for any new product you put on your skin. You cannot know how your skin is going to react to a specific product.Products can react to other products you use adding more confusion to the mix.Adding more than one product at a time completely breaks down your entire routine if something goes wrong. Example: You add 2 new products to your routine - you start to get red and irritated. Which product is it? the only way to tell is to now eliminate both of those products from your routine. You can cause serious harm including severe allergic reactions, scarring and pigment changes due to breakouts. These changes can potentially be permanent or very very long lasting. It is completely counterproductive to your goal: healthy happy skin. healthy happy skin requires all the products you use to work to the betterment of your skin condition - simply adding products willy-nilly puts you in the position for all/some of aforementioned reactions/bad things happening to your skin potentially undoing all the work you've done thus far.I know it's a very painful process to patch test - especially for those with skin that is highly irritated and/or have bad acne and/or for anyone who has lost self esteem due to their skin condition - we've all been there - you don't want to even be seen by your cat on some days. But honestly, as painful as a 10 day patch test is - it will save your much much heartache in the furture.I was a non-patch tester. I came here and half-assed it. I did a few things correctly - i made a good assessment of my skin that holds true to this day. But after the assessment i was like 'oh i can just do this this and this and my skin will be glowing and perfect!' WRONG! I ended up with an allergic reaction, a breakout, and some pigment change/scarring (thankfully after 6 months i'm starting to see those fade significantly - but 6 months!!). It cost me almost 2 months of misery and the shame of leaving my house feeling like a bright red, inflamed, pimple infested reject. My self esteem took a big hit....Please please please! patch test - you will be much much happier in the end. Here is the sidebar link on how to patch test:https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/14sd25/i_just_learned_how_to_do_a_test_patch_properly/It would be awesome if the veterans here can chime in on effective ways they've patch tested and tips and tricks. A few tips I have to offer: remember this is for ME - ymmv and you may be completely different.Despite the FAQ i linked above I do not patch test on sensitive areas until i've patch tested for at least a week on non sensitive area. Example: my cheeks are super sensitive - patch testing on my cheek to start would be fruitless and painful bc i have discovered that i can't put ANYTHING on my cheeks - no acids, no serums - i can put jojoba oil, argan oil, and shea butter on my cheeks - that's it. Most things are going to hurt - and i can discover this patch testing elsewhere first (my skin is super sensitive so i will pretty much get red and irritated anywhere) YMMV *I do not patch test more than 1 product - i do not want to deal with 2 potential disasters at once
