[Product Question] Should I wash my armpits before applying anti-perspirant stick at night?

Several antiperspirants sticks claim they work better if applied at night, as we sweat less and so the skin absorbs it better (I don't question this).However, I prefer showering in the morning when I wake up, so I guess I'm not as clean at night. Should I clean my armpits at night before applying the stick anti-perspirant? If I don't, will it lose its efficiency, as bacteria from my skin starts "living" in the stick?
