[Product question]Is it me or is Benzoyl Peroxide useless for anything other than whiteheads?

I used to love the stuff as a teen since it would dry out whiteheads real quickly. But now that I have deeper types of acne it just seems useless and do absolutely nothing. Running an alcohol swap over the the pimple and washing with antibacterial soap seems to be much more effective
