Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently started using retinol (PC). It's been around three and a half weeks since I started, and I use it every other night or every three nights, depending on my skin, along with the PC extra clear line (which I have been using for several months so that's not an issue). I moisturize heavily after and follow with a layer of Vaseline (my skin does best when heavily moisturized). I know people say it takes a few weeks to kick in, but it was love at first use for me. The first night I used it my skin seemed tighter and clearer, and it's continued to be great since then. I started getting light breakouts/having generally bad skin in my earlyish 20s just a few years ago after years of good skin, and have been a bit depressed about it, so this has meant a lot to me and really picked up my mood. Feel like myself again, as cheesy as that sounds. However, a few days ago I noticed I had some dry skin at the corners of my mouth. And then the other day I got a quarter sized patch of dry skin on my cheek - kind of like after a light sunburn. I never get dried skin like this so I'm assuming it's tied to the retinol. I've also noticed my skin seems a bit duller/drier/tight in a bad way, but that's only in the past two days.I guess I'm wondering - is this normal? I've read in a lot of places that people go through a "shedding" phase and if you stick it out it settles down. Conversely, I've also read that it means you're using too strong of a product. I'm happy to get through a rough patch if it's part of the process, and I don't think it's too strong since I've had no stinging/redness/irritation even though I have sensitive skin, but to be honest I'm totally new to a lot of this so I'd appreciate any advice. Just want to make sure this is normal and I'm not about to seriously mess up my skin, and if it is I'm wondering how long the process takes. Def a skincare newbie so any help appreciated!
