[Skin Concerns] Doc prescribed Retin-A for body acne, not sure if it is acne?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone. I'm a 20 year old female; I made an earlier post about this skin concern before seeing a doctor, but I'll just do a brief recap.I've always had pretty good skin; relatively soft, smooth, resilient, etc. I've had my fair share of pimples and some oiliness here and there as an adolescent, and one bout of tinea versicolor.A few months ago my skin started acting strange. Along my upper arms, the skin became rough. Then I developed small red bumps on my chest that I tried to treat as acne but didn't respond to acne treatment; I pegged them as folliculitis. Then all the skin along my shoulders, neck, and upper back became rough and thin, like it'd aged in just a few weeks. There is some redness and pimples on my shoulders and back, and a new stubborn patch of it on my chin. Nothing severe. The change in texture was really bugging me so I finally had a doctor see it.She ran her hands on the skin and declared it all acne, even the parts without any pimples or redness--just rough, sand paper skin. She prescribed me Retin-A, without telling me much about it.I looked it up myself, having only vaguely heard of it in relation to anti-aging, and came up with daunting tales of the medication wreaking havoc on your skin before finally clearing up more serious acne than I have it.Frankly, I'm still not convinced of the diagnosis and I'm now I'm terrified of using the Retin-A. People talk about their skin peeling and burning and turning red and purging, but for the good of severe acne that eventually clears up after a few weeks of the Retin-A. That's all well and good, but my doc seems to want me to apply the Retin-A to my body, my whole entire chest, shoulders, and upper back. That much skin freaking out does not appeal to me. And, I have no idea how to go about applying it, how to take care of such a large area. Do I smear on copious amounts of moisturizer? Vaseline? In the morning, am I supposed to figure out a way to wash my shoulders and chest the way I would my face?My skin texture is dry and sandpaper rough, and the doc told me Retin-A could my skin dry. Doesn't that seem a little counter productive? Not sure what this sub can tell me, I'm just more than a little doubtful, and I'm frightened as well as confused. I feel like this could badly and I don't have any guidance at all.Thank you so, so much for any advice!
