I basically went product crazy over the past couple of years and my skin progressively got worse...I ended up with what looked like terrible irritation, closed comedones (my phone just auto-corrected comedones to comedians. Had to share), bumpiness, painful deep pimples, and lots of redness. Went to a derm and he added a topical prescription which made things worse (keep in mind everyone's skin is different and I'm in no way shaming prescriptions! I know they work wonders on many people's skin; my skin was just super irritated already, so it's completely a personal thing).I was a mess. It got worse and worse every day. The pictures don't do it justice due to the yellowish lighting (also, for some weird reason, it's easier to see how my skin looked while seeing the photos on a phone as opposed to a computer- offers more detail, not sure why). I know it could have been a lot worse...but for my skin, this was really bad, and it was affecting my mood so much. Then one particularly rough night, crying included (as well as facial itchiness, deep pimple formation, and increasing terrible texture) my SO suggested to stop all product use and just use water for a few days. I thought, hell no. The idea of not using anything terrified me. But then I realized he had a point- how else would I ever figure out what the hell was messing with my skin?So for 5 days I stepped out of my comfort zone and I used only water, day and night. I only added a tiny dab or two of LJH Tea Tree 90 Essence to the super red inner cheek spots for a couple days (keep in mind though that I was using this before as well, and didn't use it on anything other than two or so spots on only my inner cheeks). Eventually I only used water, strictly, for the last 3 days.My skin thanked me. Holy shit- in 5 DAYS my skin made a total 180. Yeah, I experienced a tiiiiny bit of dryness in air conditioning since I was sans moisturizer (I have combo skin though, so thankfully this helped keep me balanced), but aside from that, no other issues! My red bumps faded. My CC's basically just fell off (this may have been contact dermatitis though as opposed to CC's, still iffy on that one). My redness subsided. Everything just...chilled out. I was amazed and every morning I woke up excited. My mood quickly improved. So basically, I just really wanted to share this and say that if any of you are at the end of your rope and think that your skin could handle it, try just giving your skin a break for a few days and see how that goes. Of course, YMMV (everyone's skin is different and I know using only water [albeit temporarily] isn't for everyone!), but I was so depressed and frustrated that I figured if anyone else is feeling this way I had to share what worked for me. I realized something, some ingredient, some product, was really messing me up and I wouldn't catch the culprit unless I started from scratch. I'm slowly re-introducing a moisturizer (patch testing this time- sheesh, haha) and will reintroduce a cleanser and then SPF every couple of weeks (also keep in mind I wore caps and basically isolated myself indoors for these 5 days so as to avoid any sun exposure since I wasn't wearing any SPF).If anything, I hope this helps anyone at all. Sometimes, skin is just irritated and needs a break, and it's also a reminder to always try products one at a time, slowly!Again, this is just what helped me...I was just so glad for the improvement and wanted to share. :)P.S: I'm still dealing with some PIE/PIH and uneven skin tone due to mild Rosaca, and I know it's not perfect, but I'm just so glad to have improved at all!
