Beauty Tips For Body Care
As an Indian guy, I've seen my mum slather homemade turmeric masks on her face all my life. Turmeric is a rhizome that has brightening abilities (can fade PIH) and strong anti-inflammatory properties that nip new pimples in the bud before they can even form.I obviously can't be bothered to mix up all the ingredients and slather on a turmeric mask, so I've never tried the ingredient on my face before. I have oily/combination skin with some CCs and the occasional pimple, and AHAs/BHAs have been helping me a lot, but they haven't been giving me the extra 'oomph' that I really want. Like, they improved my skin, but then the improvement kind of... plateaued? It remained that way for months and I got pretty fed up of all the CCs and occasional breakouts and shit, so I decided that I have nothing to lose anyway and got myself a pretty popular turmeric treatment called the 'Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream'. It is absolutely loaded with turmeric - 16%, according to the ingredients list. It also contains 0.5% sandalwood oil (there's also a 'WSO' (without sandalwood oil) version for people who cannot tolerate essential oils on their skin). It also isn't tested on animals (which is always a plus)I bought it from a store near my house last week and used it the same night I got it. I used it after all my actives and AB essences, but right before my Cerave PM moisturiser.First impressions:It is highly mattifying. My face had a sheen after I layered on all the essences, but the Vicco cream made my face completely matte. I think it's because of the turmeric powder. It is non-greasy and 'dry' - it dissolves into your skin like a primer, pretty much like Deciem's Hylamide primers which I reviewed the other day.It has a strong scent of sandalwood oil, which smells very 'earthy' and 'woody'It is mild yellow in colour, but doesn't stain my NC30 skinYou only need a pea-sized amount of it to dab all over your face. Any more than that and it'll probably make your skin feel dry because of how mattifying it isDay 1: I was breaking out near my nose and forehead right before I put on the cream. When I woke up in the morning, the breakouts were... gone. They just vanished. I couldn't even remember the exact spots because there was no trace of my breakouts whatsoever. But my CCs still remained.Day 2: My CCs started subsiding, and my face appeared brighter and less dull. No breakouts today - completely clear skin.Day 3: CCs subsided heavily, SFs on nose also subsided considerably but no change in a blackhead near my forehead (which I'll probably have to extract anyway)Day 4: I cannot believe this. My skin looks like fucking porcelain today.Day 5: Same reportDay 6: Same reportDay 7: Same reportI'm seriously in awe. I can't believe I've had a cheap solution for my skin's woes available to me all my life, yet the thought of trying it never really crossed my mind. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to derive the benefits of turmeric in a leave-on product without the hassle of mixing up a mask and waiting ages to wash it off. I can't comment on the efficacy of the WSO version because I've only tried the one with sandalwood, which could've possibly worked synergistically with the turmeric to exert an inhibitory effect on my breakouts. Idk how people outside of India can get their hands on it irl, but it's being sold on eBay for $2 for the smallest tube to $16 for the biggest tube, which is more $$$ than what I paid for it but it's sooooo worth it.(edit: I thought I was imagining things when my pimples and CCs disappeared in a matter of days, but a review on amazon sounds pretty similar to my own experience - "I purchased it on Oct 27th and it arrived Nov 10th which was a pleasant surprise! So I washed my face and put it on last night around 4pm. By 10pm, the redness toned down to a very mild pink, my skin was hydrated and less flakey, and the cysts were 75% gone. I am not kidding. Before bed, I applied another dab just on the cysts and this morning looked even better. Still have a few bumps but nowhere near the amounts as before.")
