[Acne] Is it normal that my face turns red when I put on Vitamin C serum?

Im using Avalon Orgaincs Intense Defense Vitamin C. Im considering switching products....where else can I use this if its not compatible with my face? Also, are vit c serums a type of oil? I think my face breaks out with oil products.
