Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi r/skincareaddiction! I'm looking for some suggestions/critique on my routine to see if there's anything I can be doing better to battle some new cystic acne I've been getting.I'm 23/F, and have never had any major issues with acne growing up besides what I would consider normal occasional breakouts. My skin is pretty average: definitely not oily much at all, occasionally trending towards dry. I have been on hormonal bc (Depo) for many years, but have never really had any negative side effects. Note that I cannot go on an estrogen-based bc due to a history of blood clots/strokes/bone marrow disease in my family.Within the last eight months or so, I've been getting cystic acne on my cheeks. They tend to form and either stay underneath the skin and dissipate or become red. They're small, only a few cm across. The weird thing is they've never "erupted," as in they've never come to a white head and popped. Instead, they just kinda sit there and eventually go away, often leaving small scars. The scars are more like small dark spots, although with this new bout the marks have been more red, but thankfully no "ice pick" texture. I have not seen a derm yet.It had just been one or two, but recently I've gotten several at once. Since I've never had issues with cystic acne before, I'm at a loss as to what to do. To be clear, it's definitely not drastically bad (I'm taking two small areas on my face), but I want to fix it before it gets worse. Here is my current routine:AMWash face using Fresh Soy CleanserNoxema Anti-Blemish pads (Stridex kind of made my skin worse and I didn't like the texture; these have 2% salicylic acid)BP (2.5% I believe) spot treatmentClinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing GelPMRemove makeup with Pond's makeup removing padsSame routine as AMI had been using Privai Nourishing Face & Body Oil as a moisturizer at night, but I recently stopped in fear that it was making iit worse.I have no history of food sensitivity. I eat relatively low carb (not keto per se) and work out regularly. Is there anything else I can be doing to prevent these cysts from forming? How can I treat what I already have? How can I help fade the scars? I've read that glycolic acid may help with cystic acne and scarring. How would I add this to my routine?Any and all feedback/suggestions are much appreciated!
