[Anti-Aging] Do AHAs and BHAs cause any damage in the long-term?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been hearing that AHAs and BHAs cause your skin to age quicker/become thinner over time and that they're only good to use for short-term results. Is that true? I've seen these kinds of comments around youtube mostly which I know I shouldn't put too much stock on, but I have seen a few people with skincare blogs mention over the years that acids can cause skin thinning. Also on the Ordinary website (and this is what really prompted me to ask this) they have a note under their AHA/BHA products about how they don't really recommend such forms of direct exfoliation. Can someone explain? I'm pretty lost :/
