[Review] Deciem's Hylamide Primers Part 2 (re-review)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I previously reviewed the two primers from Hylamide in this post. That was half a year ago, and I have now re-purchased and used the primers for long enough to be able to provide you guys with a more comprehensive review of them. In my original review, the primers were tried after I had moisturised my skin with my daytime lotion (CeraVe PM). I have now tried both mattifiers on top of various lotions, creams essences, serums, sunscreens, the whole gamut basically, and this final review is more reflective of that.In my personal opinion, the HA Blur is vastly superior to its Matte 12 counterpart for a number of reasons which I shall grade below. However, keep in mind that this is my own personal viewpoint, and everyone's needs differ. This review should be able to help you gauge your own personal needs and come up with your own conclusion.Feel when squeezed out the tube:The HA Blur is a softer, thinner and more spreadable gel-like substance, while the Matte 12 is a harder, thicker, and jelly-like silicone substance that feels somewhat greasy if you really tack it on. This makes the HA Blur far more pleasant and conducive to use, it feels like something you look forward to putting on every day. The HA Blur is a lot more buildable; you can layer it on as much as you want (reasonably of course) without any obvious buildup, that isn't the case for the Matte 12.The HA Blur has a more pleasant smell as well. I previously thought it was an intolerable chemical smell, but I wasn't able to put my finger on it back then and I can now say that it's somewhat akin to a citrus-like/apple scent – which isn't all that bad. The Matte 12 just smells neutral and siliconey.Score HA Blur (1) / Matte 12 (0)Look and performance on face:The HA Blur dissolves and mattifies instantly when patted into skin, no matter how many layers of skincare you might have on your face. I thought the Matte 12 mattified pretty quickly, but I hadn't fully compared it to the HA Blur earlier nor had I tried it with sunscreen in my original review. When I said it 'mattified instantly', that was in comparison to the non-Deciem primers I tried. When compared to the HA Blur, the Matte 12 goes on a bit greasy at first and takes its own time to do the job. The greasiness of the Matte 12 lasts maybe about 10 minutes or so before it goes full matte, and that makes it somewhat discouraging to use if you just want to bolt straight out of your house afterwards without worrying about how you look. The HA Blur mattifies your face whilst leaving it slightly glowing, think dewy, but without any surface grease or oil. It makes your face matte whilst still looking healthy and 'alive'. The Matte 12, once it dries down and mattifies, kills all and any semblance of dewiness, shine and glow, and makes your face look somewhat dead and dull, think cadaver-like. It dries very matte. This can give you a somewhat unnatural and dare I say unattractive appearance, but then again, this isn't a problem for women who intend to wear makeup on top of their primer and use highlighters, dewy foundation, etc. The Matte 12 will kill all shine so that the oil won't break through your makeup. For people and especially men who just want to go bare and are looking for something to kill the oil whilst still looking healthy, I don't think you'll like the Matte 12 as much as you'll like the HA Blur. This really shows when you're photographed; having some natural glow is preferable. As for the way it makes your skin look, the HA Blur definitely makes skin look smoother and more canvas-like. The Matte 12 can also do that pretty well, although the HA Blur has a different mix of ingredients and film-forming agents that give it a boost in that area. They're both meant for different things as their product names state.Score HA Blur (2) / Matte 12 (0)Mattifying abilities:As Deciem states on its website, the HA Blur has 'medium' mattifying properties while the Matte 12 has 'high' mattifying properties. I have oily skin but I still prefer the HA Blur because of the way it retains the skin's natural glow. However, I'm going to give the Matte 12 an edge here because it does mattify better throughout the day. With the HA Blur you may or may not need an additional pea-sized application (depending on the kind of climate you live in), but the Matte 12 is more than likely to hold up the entire day without the need for a reapplication.Score HA Blur (2) / Matte 12 (1)Moisturising abilities:HA Blur, hands down. It has Hyaluronic acid, after all. It feels like a burst of moisture entering your skin when you pat it on. The Matte 12 doesn't feel moisturising at all.Score HA Blur (3) / Matte 12 (1)CostWhich one is cheaper? The HA Blur, and both are the same size, so you get more bang for your buck for a product that works better for me.Score HA Blur (4) / Matte 12 (1)The HA Blur therefore wins for me. As usual, if any of you have questions, feel free to ask. There might be some things I've missed out on.
