To keep a cold sore moist or dry? What said are you on? [skin concerns]

I'm currently on day 6 of the worst cold sore of my life, I'm at the yellow scab stage. So fun. I actually don't mind when people offer advice but I'm constantly hearing to opposite things, either to keep it moist during the scab stage or to keep it as dry as possible drying the scab stage. What works for you guys?
