Beauty Tips For Body Care
"That's not how tumours work!" It's how this one type of tumour works. READ ON.My fiance is a zit-picker.He had a zit on his forehead, and as foretold in the prophecy, picked it.Then it came back, angry as hell. So he picked it.Then it came back again, and by now looked very much like a blood blister mated with a cyst: dark blood red, angry, VERY much protruding from the face, etc.And that's when we learned two fun facts:blood blisters don't tend to protrude much, instead preferring to stay relatively close to the skin (even if elevated, they did not protrude like this sucker did),andnodular melanoma is often the most lethal kind and also doesn't look at all like anything you have been trained to look for in melanoma (it can be a smooth, normal-looking mole of any colour, but it needs to Elevated, Firm, and Growing). His was elevated, growing, but not reliably firm.So off to the derm as referred by his doc (eventually; we wound up going private), where he diagnosed my fiance (after biopsy and removal, with analysis of the tissue) with a pyogenic granuloma.So. Pyogenic granulomas are fun as they are (a) not pyogenic (related to pus) and (b) not granulomas (a type of immune system reaction involving your white blood cells, which is not directly visible to the naked eye). They are a type of capillary tumour called a hemangioma, and are benign. They also tend to bleed if you look at it funny, but this is not always true. How did his zit-picking cause a pyogenic granuloma? They can form at the site of minor injuries due to overeager healing response. So the zit picking caused the 'minor trauma' needed; his body overreacted and over-produced vascular cells; a tumour formed. They can go away on their own, but sometimes need to be surgically removed. They are also known as the "pregnancy tumour" due to prevalence during pregnancy. WHO KNEW.tl;dr don't pick your zits; also make lots of jokes about your (male) fiance's pregnancy if he gets a pyogenic granuloma.
