[Acne] Blood blister from not popping a zit?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
(on mobile so please forgive!) Many months ago I noticed a rather large zit forming on my cheek. Having read all the dangers of skin-picking, and already having several hyperpigmentation spots for company, I decided that this would be my shining moment to prove I can go without picking. The zit progressed as expected and the white head disappeared with no problems but the red bump still remained. I was unconcerned and made certain not to touch it until it started turning purplish-black. Of course I was now crazy. Unsure of what to do, I disinfected a needle and took the plunge only to have a reservoir of blood greet me. Great, my acne had created some under-skin blood blister. The scar/scab created was monstrous and even now there are still faint remnants of my battle that the hydroquinone hasn't fixed yet. I am now terrified to leave zits (especially ones on my very scar-prone cheeks) alone. Once they reach a whitehead they are kicked out since dealing with the blood blister took way longer than just a regular scab.So my question is: what the hell happened? And how can I prevent a blood blister, or is my skin just too sensitive to house acne? Will I have to pick for life!? Thanks!
