[Misc] Does applying an occlusive directly after using an AHA or BHA affect its performance?

I know that there's a 15-30 minute window to let actives work after applying them and moving onto the next product in your routine, but sometimes I just want to use an occlusive like an ointment or plain petroleum jelly after using a chemical exfoliant and go to sleep. Would doing this not allow the actives to work?? Thanks.
