[Skin Concern] Lots of builtup dead-skin on face

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey, I am 19/M. Just heard of this subreddit and would like some advice/help.I've started getting some noticeable flakes, or which I believe a small buildup of deadskin on my face (wasn't alot at this time) and went to the doctors about it. Doctor advised to stop using my skincare routine for a week and see what happens. In fact it only got worse, and the buildup of deadskin on my face is more bigger and noticeable. I went back to her after a week without using routine and got referral to a dermatologist which is fully booked until 2 months and the appointment fee is really high. So I'm now looking for some advice/help in this subreddit. My routine:Cleanser (gentle cetaphil one)Moisturizer at night (qv face for night)*Only do these once together at night before bedBefore the week of not using my routine, I used to gently remove it at the shower and I think using cleanser + moisturizer afterwards minimised the buildup of deadskin but not completely remove it. I understand that skin needs to shed and rebuild itself, but I seem to have an excess amount of deadskin currently. It's like a there is an extra layer of skin is on my face that I can feel and is dry and bit rough, and can peel If I scratch it off a bit (which I know I'm not supposed to). Overall it just looks and feels really gross. Not sure if I should change a product in my routine or incorporate a new one. Or it could be the season I'm in, since Im in sydney, the season here is winter and the air is really dry. Maybe I should invest in an humidifier? Or is it that my face is not exfoliating naturally anymore and I probably need an exfoliator but I've heard stories about them and how they messed some people's faces up. And since I have a collected buildup of deadskin, I'm not sure an exfoliator would help or be as effective. If your gonna recommend me one, is it safe and for sensitive skin. I've heard there are other ways to exfoliate besides chemical based. Also my mum has been lecturing and telling me to apply honey or lemon or something natural to do it. Not sure if they are safe or not, or will be effective enough. One last thing, forgot to ask my doctor about this but should I go back to skincare routine of cleansing + moisturising that I was using before the doctors and minimise the buildup or will it make it worse? Or should I wait till I get a certain product or something. Really need to know before I take a shower tonight.
