[Research] Do "surface levels" of sebum on the skin actually directly regulate production/excretion?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I scanned this sub for user opinions on oil-blotting sheets and there didn't appear to be any consensus on whether using them would increase sebum production/excretion. Some users suggested a kind of rebound affect where blotting away sebum would lead to increased production. Others speculated that sebum production/excretion wouldn't actually be affected by just removing surface sebum. So my question then is, exactly how do our bodies regulate sebum production and excretion? The scientific literature clearly shows that heat, cortisol levels, body temperature, and other variables are positively correlated with increased sebum excretion. But for the life of me, I can't find any scientific literature showing how or even if sebum excretion is influenced by existing sebum levels on the surface of the skin.Anybody able to point to the research? I'll also accept logically valid arguments in the absence of citable research.
