[Product Question] Why was this clay mask so brightening?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
The other day I used a sample of a clay mask that I found while tidying my skincare, the Cattier Yellow Clay Mask. The ingredients list were fine to me, and I really needed that clay purifying action on my skin. It was nice and soft, but it seemed extremely mild to be a good clay mask. But when I retired it, my face was super bright. Like, extremely bright, I’ve never seen my skin tone so even and calm. I wasn’t expecting this kind of results from a clay mask, but I was obviously pleased. My question is why.Was one of the ingredients? Maybe the lactic acid or it was some extract? Are clay mask always that brightening?Ingredients: Aqua, Kaolin, Illite, Mentha Piperita Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana Water, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Benzyl Alcohol, Pelargonium Graveolens Oil, Mentha Piperita Oil*, Lactic Acid, Citronellol.
