Beauty Tips For Body Care
I just saw Robin James' video on TIÉGE and felt I had to reach out to him to tell him about the dangers TIÉGE in its current state brings to the table and bring more awareness to those unknown to the potential health risks. I've just sent this e-mail, so I'll copy-paste it down below as it explains everything. On a side note, I'm fairly new to actually posting on Reddit, so forgive me for any formatting mistakes, using the wrong [tags], etc."Dear Robin,I happened to find this e-mail address through your YouTube channel. I didn't quite know where else to send it to. You've been one of the more unbiased YouTubers out there and since you had just done your review on TIÉGE, I felt like I owe it to you, as well as TIÉGE's customers to know the truth. So, a little over a month ago I purchased my first TIÉGE HANLEY system (level 3). About a week in I started to notice some side-effects: what started out as an innocent fishy smell around the nose area, as you mentioned in your video, turned out to be more harmful than innocent — it caused me to have trouble breathing and (accurately) smelling scent. Since those issues arose I felt like I had to do research on the ingredients they used. I had high hopes for Alpha and Team, but this was genuine cause for concern.Long story short, I decided to send them an e-mail based on my findings. Here's what it said, including their response:'Dear TIÉGE and team,I recently purchased level 3 of the TIÉGE skincare system because the 'uncomplicated skincare for men' slogan appealed to me a lot. Having said that, I like to do my research when it's concerning something that's supposed to sit and stay on my face all day. I've been googling most of the ingredients used and two of them stood out: phenoxyethanol and acetyl hexapeptide-8.Now, I know phenoxyethanol is used as a preservative in many modern-day beauty products and used as a replacement for parabens. I also found out, however, that phenoxyethanol can lead to irritation of the airways upon inhalation (which is likely, due to the product covering the area around the lips and under the nose), malfunctioning central nervous system and fertility issues. For those and other reasons a concentration higher than 1% isn't allowed in the EU. Since phenoxyethanol seems to be fairly high on the list of ingredients used in your products, I wanted to ask you what the concentration percentage in your products is (I believe they stack, as multiple phenoxyethanol containing products are used on top of each other — Super Serum, EYES and AM/PM — ) and what your answer is to the aforementioned health risks I discovered.Regarding acetyl hexapeptide-8, I've found the following statements made by websites such as https://www.truthinaging.com/ingredients/acetyle-hexapeptide-8: ["Because Argireline is a recently discovered ingredient within the skincare arena, very little is known regarding is safety and effectiveness. However, it should be noted that, unlike Botox, which targets specific muscles, Argireline (assuming it works) will relax all muscles of the face. Theoretically speaking, this could also lead to facial sagging because the neurotransmitter release that Argireline inhibits, is also known to maintain facial firmness. Thus, those concerned with facial sagging should approach this ingredient with caution."] and http://www.thedermreview.com/acetyl-hexapeptide-8/: ["While acetyl hexapeptide 8 has been proven to prevent the formation of wrinkles that are caused by frowning and smiling, there are people who should avoid using this peptide because of the way it blocks impulses to the muscles of the face. For example, if you have drooping eyelids or sagging skin around the eyes, then the use of acetyl hexapeptide 8 may worsen this problem. If you have a problem with muscular twitching in the face, then you may first want to speak to your physician about using anti-aging products that contain acetyl hexapeptide 8."}I'd really appreciate if you could elaborate on my findings. I love the idea of your uncomplicated skincare for men system and would love to continue using it and supporting the brand with more ease of mind. Thanks a bunch,u/SummeryRain'"This was their response — albeit disappointing:"Hello u/SummeryRain,We’re happy to answer as many of your questions that we can.As far as your concerns with Phenoxyethanol. We use this in a very low concentration recognized to be safe by the EU and effective. In regards to Acetyl Hexapeptide-3, the effects of products using the ingredient for topically-application are temporary and last for a few hours out of the day. Over the first few months, you should see a different in the appearance of your skin.Let us know if you have any additional questions.Aaron, Rob, Kelley & the Chemist"Since I felt unsatisfied with the response, I decided to send them yet another e-mail explaining the difficulty breathing and smelling scent issues along with the issues regarding phenoxyethanol and acetyl hexapeptide-8. Again, here's what it said, including their response:"Dear TIÉGE,I don't feel quite content with the response I have received. Would you mind actually taking some time to provide some additional information, as well as answer the questions I've posed in my previous e-mail? Think the concentration of phenoxyethanol used in your products and the side-effects of both phenoxyethanol and acetyl hexapeptide-8. Mind you, I'm not the only one concerned about this. There have been multiple posts on Reddit about the risks and side-effects of using products containing either. Also, ever since I started applying the AM moisturizer, I've been having trouble breathing and smelling scent. I've not been using the PM moisturizer, since that one does contain the acetyl hexapeptide-8.Finally, I saw I was charged $ 57 for this month's shipment of the level 3 system. However, I had cancelled my subscription as I do not intend to use your products moving forward. Not just because of the risks and side-effects, also because now I've experienced first-hand how it has affected my ability to smell and breathe in a very negative way.u/SummeryRain"To which they responded:"Hello u/SummeryRain,Sorry to hear that our previous responses weren’t satisfactory. If you have issues with those two ingredients, we would recommend that you stop using our products. As for the renewal, we see that it went through on September 24th and you subscription was cancelled on September 25th. It looks like the package has already been shipped out. We can definitely provide you with a full refund once the product is returned to us.Instructions for returning the new box: Please do not open the box, write "RTS" big and in all caps on the box, circle the Tiege Hanley address and drop it off at the post office. The return will be free of charge if the box is not opened. When we receive your return, we will refund your payment.Aaron, Rob, Kelley & the Chemist"A couple of my recent findings, which are even more cause for concern:I did cancel my subscription in time.I just checked the links included in my first e-mail, and they both have been taken down (the quotes following the website links were, in fact, taken from the websites and I'm fairly sure Google Cache will have a copy laying around)! This is serious cause for concern, Robin, as these products are a serious treat to someone's health.A little information about me then: I'm a healthy, in-shape guy from the Netherlands who just turned 20. I've used skincare products containing phenoxyethanol in the past with no issues whatsoever. Since they wouldn't disclose any information about the percentage used, I'm inclined to think it's higher than 1%.Also, I'm not in it to gain anything from this, nor to bring them down. I am, however, seriously concerned about their approach, their lack of information and warnings for potential serious, long-lasting health risks and, last but not least, their way of taking down websites as soon as it's not in line with what they're trying to sell.I'm worried and I'm asking you to investigate this. Alpha may be a great salesman, but these products, in their current state, shouldn't be allowed to be sold to the general public. Thanks a bunch,u/SummeryRain
