[Cringe] A bit of a rant about a conversation that I had with a friend about skin care.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I complimented my friend who had severe acne but has now cleared up and looks dewy and clear skinned. She has been using isotretinoin for 6 months and has come to the end of the course. She told me that the isotretinoin helped, however blames a lot of her improvement on natural remedies. I told her: "I'd be careful of that, natural remedies use a lot of essential oils which can be harmful to skin. They are known irritants and can be photosensitising. Personally, I only like to use things on my face that have had scientific results."To which she responded "oil is really good for your skin! That's why it's called essential oil, because your skin needs it! Western medicine just doesn't work as well as natural remedies that have been tested for thousands of years!"I explained to her that essential oils are different to other oils such as hemp oils, and she just didn't understand. I also went on to explain the benefits of retinol which is a vitamin a derivative, just like isotretinoin is.She said "I don't like to put any chemicals on my face, I only use natural things. That's why I don't use sunscreen, it's not natural enough." She went on to explain that western medicine has just not caught up to holistic therapy and that she just doesn't trust science.I was internally screaming at this point. But but but YOU TOOK ISOTRETINOIN?!?! THAT'S WHAT WORKED! THAT WASN'T NATURAL!I eventually let it go and just laughed, there was just no explaining to her. Then today she sends me this link, saying that I should try to switch my routine to a more natural one, as she's worried about me.*TL;DR - Friend tried to tell me that natural remedies work better than science and "western medicine" even though she used isotretinoin for 6 months *
