[Skin Concerns] blackheads vs. sebaceous filaments (sf)...almost no difference.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all! seen a bunch of posts in this sub about sebaceous filaments vs. blackheads (i.e. finding articles online about how they are different and should be treated differently). When I started seeing those posts, I was pumped! I had SF, not blackheads! Mine aren’t black or deep, so they must just be sf!Except...I brought this newfound knowledge to my sister who is finishing her derm residency, and she told me she’d never heard of sebaceous filaments. I was so confused. So I did some research, and found some helpful info...this post by a well-known skincare chemist, Stephen Alain Ko summarizes the issue really well https://kindofstephen.com/why-your-dermatologist-or-that-sales-person-may-not-know-what-a-sebaceous-filament-is/TL;DR, he explains there is no practical difference between sf and blackheads...Both are technically a natural occurrence of sebum and dirt buildup, and they can and should be treated the same way.I don’t mean to burst anyone’s bubble who (like me) thought they had sf and could treat more easily than blackheads, but I think it’s important to know that this difference is a very minor and semantic one. Call them whatever you want, but just know that blackhead treatments are still our friend ;)
