[Misc] I dream of "review-free" shopping

Beauty Tips For Body Care
The current fracas over Sunday Riley instructing its employees to post fake reviews on Sephora's site has reinforced what I've increasingly felt in my skincare exploration: Other peoples' reviews are virtually useless in figuring out what products actually work for me and are worth my money. If "YMMV" is a core tenet of being a skincare consumer, then how much can 50-100 breezy words from hundreds of different individuals really tell you about how something will work on your own skin? And now that we know a significant number of reviews are outright fakes planted to drive sales, I've decided no longer to pay attention to reviews at all in making my purchasing decisions. It would be amazing if someone could program a browser extension that somehow blocks or hides e-commerce reviews, a la AdBlock. Seems like it could be relatively simple to implement on sites that use 3rd-party platforms like YotPo, and possibly more difficult for proprietary review systems, as Sephora's and Amazon's seem to be. But just imagine enabling an extension and watching all the reviews, "loves," and star ratings vanish, leaving nothing but a description and ingredients list. Sigh.
