Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://i.redd.it/lau10uh8k6n21.pngI’m so pale, sunscreen that leaves a white cast is basically tinted for my complexion. I began using Differin this year, so I started needing to wear sunscreen daily. My skin type is oily but it fluctuates to normal and even dry if I overdo it on the Differin.I wasn’t completely happy with the sunscreens I used so far and I heard good things about EltaMD and La Roche Posay, so I ordered 8 samples from aspenclinique.com and Amazon (and got another one for free!). So I reviewed all of those samples and the 2 sunscreens I had already been using.I wore most samples for 3 days, except the ones that did not work for me. The only makeup I wear is Physician’s Formula mineral loose powder foundation, so I don’t know how cosmetically elegant these would be under other makeup.· CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Lotion ($15/1.7oz) Rating: 3/5This is the first sunscreen I picked up and used for about a month. I use mostly CeraVe products in my routine, but I hated the AM Lotion because it was too thick and greasy. This was much more lightweight and it dried down pretty well, but I would not call it a matte finish as it’s advertised. It did not stop my face from getting oily/shiny throughout the day, and I would blot my face and probably decrease the effectiveness of the sunscreen. It also stung my eyes a little.· La Roche Posay Anthelios Clear Skin ($20/1.7oz) Rating: 1/5I was getting tired of the shininess from the CeraVe sunscreen and also dealing with purging, so I decided to try this. The white cast from this is unreal. The sunscreen is very thick, but it dries down very quickly to very dry. I still don’t feel like I know how to apply this well. I would try applying it to my dry face, but it wouldn’t spread well and dry too quickly in white patches. I tried applying it to my damp face after washing and it was more spreadable, but also more prone to getting into every area on my face where I didn’t want it. This caused painful stinging in my eyes even hours after application and turned my eyebrows white until I rubbed the white cast off. This was not even close to cosmetically elegant. My face looked dry and chalky, but at least I never saw a spot of shine on my face. Since I have plenty of this leftover, I will probably be using it on my face and body outdoors in the summer in situations where sweat and water would normally wash sunscreen off of me.· EltaMD UV Daily ($27/1.7oz) Rating: 5/5After LRP, I was fed up and decided to order the samples hoping one of them would end up working. This is a pretty light lotion, similar consistency to the CeraVe but more matte. This left a bit of a white cast, but I actually liked it because it brightened my face and worked like a primer under my makeup. My face didn’t get as oily/shiny throughout the day as with the CeraVe. This sunscreen also did not string my eyes if I accidentally applied it too close.· EltaMD UV Daily Tinted ($27/1.7oz) Not rated because of tintI figured I would try the tinted version of the sunscreen above, but I forgot about how white I am. This sunscreen looked like I applied bronzer on my entire face, and even my coworker noticed and pointed it out. I threw away my sample packet as soon as I got home. I think this tint would work for medium and dark tones, but definitely not light.· EltaMD UV Clear Tinted ($35/1.7oz) Not rated because of tintI was originally going to throw away this sample because it was tinted too, but I decided to try it on my hand. It looked a lot lighter, so I applied it on my face. This was not as dark, and I could see myself possibly wearing it in the summer if my skin got a little tan. My coworker didn’t notice the color until I pointed it out, but agreed that it still was a noticeably different shade from my neck. This tint would probably work for all skin tones, unless you are very fair like me.· EltaMD UV Lotion ($35/7oz) Rating: 5/5My skin was feeling a little dry so I went for the “lotion” type sunscreen to see how well it would work as a moisturizer. The texture and finish is similar to the Daily, but it didn’t leave as much of a white cast. I didn’t think that it was more moisturizing than the other EltaMD sunscreens I tried so far. I think it’s worth noting that this is the cheapest EltaMD sunscreen by ounce and it didn’t leave much of a white cast, so it may be a good option for those looking for a good basic sunscreen.· La Roche Posay Anthelios Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid ($30/1.7oz) Rating: 5/5When they say ultra light fluid, they’re not lying. The sunscreen poured out of the tiny tube like water, and melted into my skin so quickly. It dried matte and did not have a terrible white cast like the other LRP sunscreen, and it was cosmetically elegant. My skin was still feeling a little dry, and I think this sunscreen was more drying than EltaMD’s. It also didn’t stop my face from getting oily/shiny throughout the day. However, I think if you are looking for a chemical sunscreen then this would be a good sample to try.· Tizo Body and Face Sunscreen Tinted ($42/3.5oz) Rating: 1/5This one was a free sample thrown in with all the EltaMD samples I purchased from Aspen Clinique. I was also going to throw away this tinted sunscreen, but again I opened it up and noticed that the shade was light. Unfortunately, it was a mistake to apply this to my face. This had all the thickness and stickiness I hated in sunscreen. The tint was light enough for my face, but I felt disgusting and oily all day. I would not recommend this to anyone.· EltaMD UV Pure ($25/4oz) Rating: 1/5This was the most disappointing of the EltaMD sunscreens. The formula was a bit thick, and it really stuck to my skin when I tried to wash it off my hands after applying or at night. This had the most white cast of all the EltaMD, and there was some pilling as I applied it. However, it did dry matte and prevented oil/shine. It reminded me of the LRP Clear Skin, but not in a good way.· EltaMD UV Shield ($48/7oz) Rating: 5/5This one seemed pretty similar to the Daily and Lotion sunscreens. It went on easily with a slight white cast, but did not completely stop my face from getting oily/shiny throughout the day. Unlike the Lotion or Daily, UV Shield is oil-free.· EltaMD UP Clear ($33/1.7oz) Rating: 4/5I saved this one for last because everyone raves about it, so I figured I wouldn’t cloud my reviews of the other sunscreens by using it early on. At first, it went on well with no white cast and a very light formula. But I noticed that it dried kind of tacky, and this formula is not very moisturizing so my skin felt and looked dry under makeup. It did a pretty good job of oil/shine control, but this sunscreen is not for me.I hope this helps those who have been looking for a sunscreen but wanted to know more about how it felt. Additionally, here’s a link to Dermstore’s guide for choosing an EltaMD Sunscreen and here's EltaMD's guide for their products. Ultimately, I recommend buying sunscreen samples like I did to know how they will act on your skin (and you may be able to get them for free or find other brands at a dermatologist’s office). In the end, I think I will go with EltaMD because I found that I prefer physical sunscreens, but I am ordering more samples of the Shield, Daily, and Lotion to decide on one.
