[Misc] Does skin actually want/need a routine?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm curious whether there is any research or what the reasoning is regarding facial skincare routines. It makes sense to me if you put on products such as makeup or sunscreen in the AM to clean it off in the PM, yet, I've been wondering lately:Where did this idea evolve from that the skin wants/needs/enjoys consistent routine?Does skin adapt to routines, and does that make for better skin or does it mess up the skin itself over time?Maybe historically routines have been unnecessary, but humans now are battling everything from chronic poor/lack of sleep, poor diets, less physical activity, pollution, etc., and our facial skin needs it?*By the way, thank you to everyone who contributes to this sub. Acne is awful (so are other skin concerns) and it's great to see people working together to combat it.
