[Personal] Asian women walking around with umbrellas in the sun - genius move?

I've noticed this near a college campus I'm visiting. I've only ever seen Asian women do this - walking around in bright sunlight with an umbrella.Is this a genius move? Do any of you do this?As a brown guy, I'm thinking of adopting this move. I've never seen people that look like me do this before.
