Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys, so I've been a lurker here for over a year, and I wanted to make a giant review post for some skincare I own and I've seen trending on Instagram, maybe help out some potential buyers, as these products are higher in price. So, I made an account and I hope you find this helpful. As with any review, these are just my personal opinions, so please don't take offense if I hated something you liked! I just am very picky! To start, I have oily, acne-prone skin on my face with large pores, and dry eczema-prone skin elsewhere. I'm mixed race with olive-brown skin, so I'm prone to hyperpigmentation. Before getting into skincare a year or two again, I didn't wash my face or use any moisturizer for almost a decade. My skin is VERY sensitive and rosacea prone, so keep that in mind as well. Farmacy Green Clean (not pictured): Oh, how I wanted to love this product! To start, I love the scent. It's a nice lime scent with a hint of ginger. It's very fresh and relaxing, and Farmacy is also a cool company for all their efforts in sustainability. As far as the polyethylene issue, I'm saving my comments for a future post, so I'll hold off for now. I've found it removes sunscreen and stuff like eyeliner easily (I don't wear foundation or concealer), and you need very little to do a good job. I have the sample from Sephora and I've used it three times, with some still left! If you're looking for something that provides a lot of "gritting" as it's called, this will probably be very satisfying for you. It washes off easily, and leaves my skin hydrated but not oily. Unfortunately, I think the fragrance irritates my skin so I don't think I can continue usage. Overall, I'd give it a 3.5/5, because while I think it is nice, I don't think it offers very much more than my Kose Softymo in efficacy or experience, especially considering the price difference. Krave Beauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser: Holy grail!! I bought this right after launch and for whatever reason, I didn't like it, but I recently rebought it, and it's heaven. It's very hydrating, but not the gross (imo) lotion texture of Cetaphil or Cerave Hydrating. I can see how some people would call it slimy, because it's not a watery gel texture, but I personally enjoy it. It hardly lathers and rinses off cleanly. You don't need a lot to get a good cleanse, imo. This won't remove makeup or sunscreen, even lathered on dry skin, so I wouldn't bother getting it for that reason, but it's a beautiful second cleanse. I absolutely adore this, and the best part is that it smells like a cup of green tea! I doesn't leave my face tight or itchy whatsoever. 100% repurchase. 5/5 Krave Beauty KalelaluyAHA: I'll start this by saying that my skin is extraordinarily sensitive to glycolic acid. I've never been able to use it without aggravating rosacea (p50) or getting a rash (The Ordinary's 7% Glycolic Acid) so I have never bothered much with it. However, this is the first one that I like! It's very watery and scentless, and not a strong exfoliation at all. I find that to be a good thing because I can layer it without hurting my skin, and still get that (temporary!) poreless look and glow. It's a really nice product and you do get a lot for the price. It looks beautiful on the countertop as well. However, I probably won't repurchase as adapalene is my preferred active. Still nice to have if you need a gentle exfoliant. 4/5 Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Baume: This is a lovely, thick cream. It feels very substantial, viscous, and a bit heavy. To imagine the texture, it feels much less oily than the La Roche Posay Lipikar Baume AP, and less silicone-y than the Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion. It's more rich than Cerave in the Tub as well. The packaging is good quality and the pump clicks to close, so it won't leak or anything. This imparts a nice sheen on the body, and a brightening effect on the face when applied. This really is a cream that should be applied to wet skin because it doesn't soak into dry skin at all; it will just leave barrier on the skin that is quite uncomfortable and heavy. In applying it for a week post shower, I just felt it didn't give the itch relief and eczema calming I was hoping for, BUT it did not burn my skin, which is an issue for me. Less is more with this, so I feel that it somewhat justifies the price, though I don't think I would repurchase. I'd probably opt for the regular Atoderm Cream instead. 3.5/5 Krave Beauty Great Barrier Relief: Wow! I am stunned by this product. I bought it at launch as well (a Liah fan, sue me) and it first, I really didn't enjoy it. However, I figured out how to use it! First, since my skin is oily, I find that it actually makes a great moisturizer replacement, and used that way, it leaves my skin looking healthy and glowy without a film. I apply a single pump of it fresh after cleansing every day on damp skin morning and night, and over these past couple weeks, I have noticed reduction in pore size and acne, much to my surprise! I attribute that to the 2% Niacinamide but it was nonetheless very unexpected. It also has reduced the irritation my skin has experienced from sunscreens (very sensitive!). The smell is not very strong compared to regular Tamanu Oil, and not bothersome to me, just slightly earthy and maple-y. It's expensive but it's been lasting really well since I need so little of it! In the beginning, I found it did burn my skin a bit, but I attribute that to the niacinamide, as that is a clinically documented side effect that goes away with continued use. I definitely want to try other niacinamide products and see if I get a similar effect after finishing this, but so far I am very pleased. 5/5 Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream: I got a sample of this after trying it in Sephora on my hand and really liking the texture. However, this is a big meh! for me after trying it on my face. For one, I don't really think it seals moisture in well, and it feels kinda slimy or oily on my face. To me, it is quite bland, and I think a lot the hype comes from the packaging. However, in my opinion, it is VERY expensive just to come in a non-recyclable, over-engineered jar. I'm not some saint or anything when it comes to products (look at all these reviews!) but the packaging just seems quite wasteful for something that really feels average to me, and doesn't really have any actives in it. Overall, I'm really not impressed by this product, or the company's ethos for that matter, and I wouldn't repurchase. 1.5/5 Necessaire Body Wash: I got this in the Sandalwood smell, and I absolutely adore it!!! It's very peppery, not a very traditional Sandalwood fragrance that you might have smelled from incense (or Vicco's turmeric cream), and is very fresh! It makes me feel like I'm standing in October breeze in a green field after rain. As far as the application, I think the "gel-oil" description is quite accurate, though if you're looking for something more oily and hydrating, I'd opt for the Bioderma Shower Oil instead. I don't find it drying compared to other shower gels, and I get a good clean from it! For security though, I like to go over my armpits and feet with the Dr Bronner's Peppermint Soap! The only real con with this product for me is that it goes fast because it doesn't lather very much! I'd recommend mixing a dash in with your favorite fragrance free body wash so it goes further! Absolutely would repurchase. 5/5 Bioderma Atoderm Shower Oil: This is a wonderful product for dry skin! It definitely feels like an oil and doesn't lather hardly at all. It really smooths and hydrates your skin a lot. I always like feeling my arms after a shower with this because they feel SO SMOOTH! Two big cons for this product: one) it goes fast and is not great at removing odors, and two) I don't particularly like the fragrance. With the humidity lately and all the sweating I've been doing, this really doesn't get the funk off like I feel it should. I will add though, it does work swimmingly for feminine areas, though I'm not sure if that is safe or suggested. 🤷♀️ The fragrance with this is what I describe as a very powdery floral, and while it does smell clean, it isn't for me. It can be quite cloying and I don't like the lingering fragrance on my skin. Additionally, I suspect (not confirmed) that it MAY aggravate the eczema on my upper arms. Also, I've seen it listed as a cheap alternative to oil cleanser for makeup/skincare removal. Well, I tried that and it definitely did not work for me. I'll also add, due to the oil texture, you really need a lot and it goes quickly. Likely would not repurchase. 3.5/5 Skinfood Propolis Ampoule: I 100% bought this due to the packaging, I'll be honest. This product is nice for an Ampoule step but honestly, as I've tried to simplify my skin routine, I find I don't really need it. It's very viscous and imparts a nice Hydrating glow, and also really blurs pores, but I don't find it really does anything other than that. It's solidly okay and if you need a hydrating essence or want to make your skin look good before a night out, I think you'll enjoy this. It has no scent, is a bit sticky, and completely clear. Overall, I'd rate this as a solid 3.5/5. Not bad, but not the product for me. I can see how others might love this. Krave Beauty Beet Shield: This sunscreen and I have a complicated relationship. While we definitely have chemistry, we've had to tweak things around a bit to make it work for us. This is advertised as not friendly for rosacea, due to the alcohol, and my skin is a bit prone to it, so I shouldn't have bought it (twice!), but I did anyway. For one, after trying other sunscreens, I love the look of this on my skin. It is very shiny so be cautious, but after trying mineral sunscreens, I think I prefer this regardless. I really prefer to show my natural skin, acne, pores, freckles, and all, and I hate the way mineral sunscreens make my skin look more one dimensional and kinda fill it in (like foundation, which I do not wear!) so I enjoy this, even if a bit dewy for my taste. The texture upon application is very smooth, not gritty at all, and is pleasant to rub in. It makes your skin very smooth and there is no white cast of any kind. It smells a bit sweet if you really put it up to your nose, and the texture is quite similar to condensed milk, minus the stickiness. This can sting a bit if you have compromised or un-moisturized skin, so use caution. I absolutely love this product, and back when I tried it the first time, I did very little except use wash my face, use rosehip oil and this sunscreen, even on my beach vacation, and I felt it really improved the look of my pores over time! Prior to that, I wasn't using sunscreen regularly whatsoever. The biggest caveat with this is that it stings my eyes. I've had this issue with every chemical sunscreen I've tried. I also have really sensitive eyes due to allergies, so my solution has been to just use a mattifying mineral sunscreen around my eyes. I really wish I could use this there, but I am mixed race with very oily hooded eyes, and it would always make its way into my eyes. I don't blame that on the product necessarily, but it's something to be aware of if you are similar to me. Overall, I still really enjoy it, and I think for the price point, it's a very high quality product with great sun protection and user experience, so I'll continue to repurchase. 4.5/5 Supergoop! Zincscreen: To start, I must have been drunk when I ordered this. $42 for 1.5 oz of sunscreen?? That's really expensive! That's more expensive than Eltamd or Skinceuticals! Especially considering that amount is basically a month's supply. Anyway... onto the review. As you may have guessed, the price of this product offends me, so I was really expecting miracles, and unfortunately, it 0% delivered for me. To start, the tint on my skin is AWFUL on my skin. I have olive-yellow skin and the peach tint made me look pasty af. But, to be fair, that is my fault, since I didn't really pay heed to the "brightening" claim like I should've. I did swatch it in Sephora on my hand, so I thought it would be a good match, but I digress... However, the application?? My lord, that was an absolute fail. It's very oily (and gritty, to my surprise) and it spread on suuuper greasy. Immediately upon application, the pigment settled into my pores and it looked like I dipped my face in canola oil. It got in my eyes as well, where it also creased on my eyelids. It was way too oily, and would not dry down. Much to my surprise, it also made my face itchy. I immediately removed it after that, and struggled to get it off, even with Farmacy Green Clean! It felt like a scrub on my face! So, all in all, I would not recommend this product. If you are very fair and hecking dry, you may find this suits you well, but for me, it was a definite no. WNP. 1/5 Supergoop! Mineral Matte & Poreless: This is one is much better than the Zincscreen, though the price is still high! To start, this sunscreen doesn't really fill pores imo. It feels almost oily and very silicone-y but isn't overly shiny. It won't really mattify you though, so I wouldn't expect that from it. It's easy to layer and remove, though it doesn't dry down very much. It gets less oily after sometime on the skin, but again, not dry. As mentioned before, I have really, REALLY sensitive eyes and I also get eczema on them, so I am really pleased with this product. Not a hint of stinging or burning, and the color is a great match for me. It feels smooth and a bit powdery after rub in, not like the Zincscreen. Compared to the Zincscreen, the tint on this is much more neutral-warm. While this really expensive, I think compared to other sunscreens specifically intended for the eye area, this is a good price and I plan to repurchase. Also, despite my flame on the Zincscreen, I do think Supergoop! is a great company, and I do appreciate their transparency on their sunscreens versus other companies I've contacted in the past. 4.7/5 Hey Guys, just tuning in again! I really hope these reviews were helpful & I'm happy to answer followups about any of the things I reviewed! Photo: https://imgur.com/gallery/2QhUwFD
