Beauty Tips For Body Care
So this has definitely been the summer of endless sunscreen testing. As someone who lives in Canada, I don't have as many accessible options as those in Asian or Europe. I did find the Bioderma Photoderm Max Milk SPF 50, which I really enjoyed, even if it can be a bit shiny. But one other sunscreen completely blew me away... Avene's Very High Protection SPF 50 Fluid (the fragrance free version). This sunscreen is AMAZING. First of all, the filters are great; it has both Tinosorb M and S, Avobenzone and Uvasorb HEB. You can read more about the filters on the sunscreen's inci page. The filters are in pretty high amounts, but I can't remember the exact percentages as I threw out the box. What's even more impressive though is that there doesn't appear to be any drying alcohols and silicones in the sunscreen (there is silica). And the only preservatives are Benzoic Acid and Sodium Benzoate. So, unless you have had averse reactions to avobenzone, this truly is a great spf for very sensitive skin.Application is a dream. Despite the high amounts of Tinosorb, very little blending was needed (for reference, I am south asian and have a medium-brown skin tone). There was no pilling around the forehead/brows/facial scruff. And it did not sting around my eyes at all. I would normally apply 3-4 pumps. Reapplication was also great! The finish of the sunscreen is a very soft matte; not drying at all, with just a little bit of dewiness for me. If you're in Toronto, you know the past month or so has been crazy humid (40+ degrees) and I found the SPF wears very well throughout the day (where I work, there is lots of natural light; there is air conditioning, but it's not super strong, so it's still a tad humid in the building).Everything about this sunscreen is an easy 10...except pricing and accessibility. As it's only available in Europe, I ordered it online through Care To Beauty. I have nothing but positive things to say about CTB; great service and super fast shipping, but it's still pricey. The Fluid sunscreen goes for $35.10 on CTB for 50ml. Regular shipping is $5.42 (which I think is super reasonable) for a total of $40.52. Now I realize that's not crazy, stupid expensive. BUT, I am able to get the Bioderma Milk SPF for $20 (100ml). So half the cost, for twice the amount. So is the Avene spf worth it in comparison? I think for the humid summer months, 100% yes. I'll definitely be re-order it for next summer. For the winter period, I'll see how Bioderma wears in the cooler temperature.Overall, I think the Avene SPF 50 Fluid is about as close to a perfect sunscreen, for me, and I'm really surprised it doesn't have the hype that LRP Shaka Fluid does. If you're able to purchase it/order it online, definitely give it a go!
