[shelfie] Finally got my budget friendly routine almost finished...! (UK)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://i.redd.it/3pq7epvnjte31.jpgI probably have normal-to-oily skin; mostly it's prety clear but I do get blackheads on my nose and often have a few spots, especially on the left side of my face which is the side I sleep on. :( However, things are clearing up nicely...!I am an extremely budget shopper and for the face try to stay below £10/100ml for everything apart from serums and oils, which I try to keep to £10/30ml or under. I can be a bit flexible but only reluctantly. :P Body care I am even stingier on.NB before I start routine details - the small glass spray bottle contains Boots Expert Senisitive Refreshing Toner, and the small jar next to the Ultrabland is a lip balm that my boyfriend made.ROUTINE SUMMARYMy generalised routine in both AM & PM is cleansers -> exfoliating toner -> moisturising toner -> up to two serums -> moisturiser -> facial oil.Morning: Neutrogena Visibly Clear Spot Proofing Daily Wash; The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution; Boots Expert Senisitive Refreshing Toner; Garden of Wisdom Vitamin C 23% + Ferulic Acid; Superdrug Vitamin E serum; Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser; ELF Nourishing Facial Oil; and if I'm leaving the house Garnier Ambre Solaire Sensitive Advance SPF 50+ & Soltan Active Lip SPF 30Evening: Lush Ultrabland; Neutrogena Visibly Clear Spot Proofing Daily Wash; The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution; Boots Refreshing Toner with Aloe Vera; The Ordinary Nicanamide 10% + Zinc 1%; Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser; The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% in SqualaneNot pictured: daily CCS Swedish Formula Foot Cream on my feet; monthly peeling foot mask from Footner; once a week deep exfoliation with The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2%; and after I get out of the shower I use Vaseline Cocoa Radiant lotion all over my body + The Ordinary 100% Squalane just on my cuticlesMORNING ROUTINE DETAILS (prices are all from Boots unless otherwise specified and are non-sale prices; Superdrug is often a bit cheaper than Boots but not as convenient for me to get to)My morning routine is: water based cleanser -> exfoliating toner -> moisturising toner -> vitamin C serum -> antioxidant serum -> moisturiser -> antioxidant rich facial oil -> sunscreenWater based cleanser: Neutrogena Visibly Clear Spot Proofing Daily Wash £5/200ml - this is an okay cleanser although I wouldn't call it spot proofing because although it does contain salicylic acid isn't not a leave on product. I either rinse with water or take it off with a flannel depending on my mood and if I've remembered to wash my flannels. :) When it runs out I'm going to switch it to Simple Moisturising Daily Wash £3.50/150ml, which I took a sample size of on holiday and really loved. I enjoy those gel/jelly textures.Exfoliating toner: The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution £6.75/240ml, Cult Beauty - I really enjoy this toning solution, it's actually the first "proper" skincare product I bought. Definitely helps keep acne at bay and is easy to use. I use it all over my face including under the eyes and while I received minor irritation at first, now I've been using it for a while and repurchased several times I have no irritation at all.Moisturising toner: Boots Expert Senisitive Refreshing Toner £2.50/200ml - this is the cheapest non-alcohol toner I can find in that I've put in a glass spray bottle from eBay, because the point here is just to soothe my skin a little before layering in actives, nothing fancy. I also use it as a make up setting spray. Having said that I'm considering separating out these two purposes and using Caudelie Grape Water (£11/200ml, Look Fantastic) as a setting spray and The Body Shop Rose Petal Gel Toner (£9.50/250ml, The Body Shop) as a hydrating toner just to spoil myself. I really am a sucker for gel textures.Vitamin C serum: Garden of Wisdom Vitamin C 23% + Ferulic Acid £10/30ml, Victoria Health - I looked all over for a vitamin C serum with a close-to-optimal %, air and light free packaging, an antoxidant to help stabilise it, and within my price range. Now I've found it I'm very happy with it and will definitely repurchase.Antioxidant serum: Superdrug Vitamin E serum £4/50ml, Superdrug - I couldn't find the ingredients for this online anywhere and it wasn't in my local branch, but the online listing boasted of a bunch of different antioxidants and it's cheap so I took a chance. No, wrong, mistake. There's a lot of denatured alcohol in this and while those antioxidants are in play I suspect they're at too low a concentration to do anything useful. It stings my skin and and I definitely won't repurchase. I want an antioxidant serum here to support the vitamin C and help prevent it tanning my skin, but as soon as I get paid I'm going to throw the Superdrug serum in the bin and try out The Inkey List Q10 Serum (£5/30ml, Cult Beauty).Moisturiser: Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser £2.86/125ml - this is a nice budget moisturiser, goes on smooth, hydrates nicely, basically does what it says on the tin. Definitely worthy of a repurchase, but I opted not to because I wanted to experiment a bit more. You can see in the picture that it's nearly out, and when it did run out (this photo is a couple weeks old) I started using The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors + HA (£6.75/100ml, Cult Beauty) which has a somewhat thicker texture and works just as nicely. I wanted to try The Ordinary because of the amino acid content, but honestly I don't think it's good enough for the price. Next on my to try list is CeraVe Moisturising Lotion (£9/236ml); I want to see if my skin likes ceramides.Antioxidant rich facial oil: E.L.F. Nourishing Facial Oil £12/15ml - this is very much the most expensive thing in my routine but it's really lovely, it feels luxurious and wonderful. I use just a few drops to seal in my moisturiser and layer in *even more* antioxidants. I wish the packaging was opaque, but I'm still going to repurchase it.Sunscreen: I normally don't leave the house immediately after my morning routine so there's a big gap to allow everything to sink in. When I do need to get ready to leave the house, I currently use Garnier Ambre Solaire SPF 50+ (£7/200ml) which I do not like, it's very sticky and greasy and gross and gets in my eyes. My partner has Sunsense Ultra SPF 50+ (£20/500ml from The Suncare Shop) which is much nicer, more like a hydrating milk, and includes niacinamide. I'm thinking about buying that next but it's kind of pricey and still stings my eyes sometimes, albeit less than the Ambre Solaire...still in search of my HG sunscreen. I may end up using a more expensive sunscreen facially and a cheaper one on my body, or a zinc oxide one around my eyes (maybe The Inkey List) to stop them stinging and a different one for the rest of my face/body. In addition to this I use Soltan Active Lip SPF 30 on my lips; nice, moisturising lip product that keeps UV out as well.EVENING ROUTINE DETAILS (prices from Boots unless otherwise specified)My evening routine is: oil based cleanser -> water based cleanser -> exfoliating toner -> moisturising toner -> serums -> moisturiser -> retinolOil based cleanser: Ultrabland £9/45g, Lush - this feels luxurious and wonderful, I love using it. I use it all over my face including my eyes and it's super gentle and hydrating. Comes off best with a warm flannel, but does rinse with water if you're patient and don't use an excessive amount of product. I'm not going to repurchase purely because of the price, although I might ask for it for Christmas. Potential replacements include Simple Cleansing Oil £7/125ml, Camomile Cleansing Balm £10/90ml from The Body Shop, and The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser £13.90/150ml from the manufacturer.Water based cleanser: as above.Exfoliating toner: as above. I am considering using a different evening toner that contains salicylic acid, more specifically Neutrogena Visibly Clear Spot Proofing Purifying Toner (£5/200ml). I am very tired of having blackheads on my nose and though my current routine has reduced them, I want to really get rid of them.Moisturising toner: as above.Serums: right now just The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (£5/30ml, Cult Beauty). I had a rocky start with this serum because I was using large amounts of it all over my face including around the eyes, and I found it very irritating; my undereye area in particular became very sore throughout the day, not just shortly after using it. Now I've had some time to acclimate, don't put it under the eyes, and use less, I get on with it really well and it has definitely reduced my blackheads and means that breakouts clear up more quickly. It dries to a slightly tacky finish but I'm putting moisturiser and an oil on top so it's irrelevant. Will repurchase in the bigger size.I am considering adding The Ordinary Buffet (£12.50/30ml, Cult Beauty) underneath the niacinamide serum for the amino acids, peptides, and hyaluronic acid. Possibly after my TO moisturiser runs out.Moisturiser: as above, alongside a lip balm that my boyfriend made.Retinol: The Ordinary 2% Granactive Retinoid in Squalane (£7.75/30ml, Cult Beauty) - I'm not sure about this one. The squalane is moisturising and beautiful and definitely helps support my moisturiser. Not sure if the retinoid is terribly useful, possibly because it's a low % of an ester and on top of everything else. I'm probably going to use this bottle up, then move onto the 5% granactive and potentially up through the rest of The Ordinary retinoids depending on how things go.MISC/NOT PICTUREDTrying to be super quick here because I've already rambled for ages...!Deep exfoliation: once a week I use The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% (£6.30/30ml) as a mask, replacing the exfoliating toner portion of my morning routine. The difference between my skin before and after is striking, and it makes my skin feel much softer and cleaner. Clears all my pores right out. Will repurchase when the bottle eventually runs out - it lasts forever!Footcare: I use CCS Swedish Formula Foot Cream (£8/175ml) everyday which helps keep my feet smooth & nice. Have repurchased several times. Once a month I use a peeling foot mask, tried Superdrug own brand and Holika Holika but I find the Footner ones far superior. They are £15 a go which is annoying, but it does show in the quality.Body care: after I get out of the shower I use Vaseline Intensive Care Cocoa Radiant Body Lotion (£3.65/200ml) all over my body, it's quite nice but I want to experiment with others. On my to try list: Weleda White Mallow Body Lotion (£12/200ml although I'd probably only get if it were on sale), Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Anti-Aging Smoothing Lotion (£4.50/250ml), and Facetheory Glycomide Body Cream (£16/200ml from the manufacturer) - this last is more expensive than I'd normally go for but with 9% glycolic acid maybe it would get rid of the keratosis pilaris on my arms?Nail care: I was very very tired of having constant hangnails so I started putting The Ordinary 100% Squalane (£5/30ml, Cult Beauty) on my nails after I get out of the shower and rubbing it into my cuticles and hurrah! Very limited hangnails. Would highly recommend if hangnails plague you as well. NB Hemi-Squalane (£2.75/30ml, Beauty Bay) is too thin to have the same effect; I tried it for the price differential but it didn't work nearly as well._______Thanks for reading this screed! Would be really interested to hear your experiences with any of the products mentioned/any feedback on my routine.
