[acne] Fungal acne success...finally!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
[This post is not about Nizoral, but for some reason that’s the pic that popped up. Read on...]My teenage daughter has struggled with acne for the past 3 years. We went to the dermatologist several times and were given various prescriptions for benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin and so forth. It wasn’t cystic, so no one recommended Accutane. We all kind of thought she wasn’t being consistent with her routine, but she insisted she was. Her hair and face were always greasy, despite showering daily.I stumbled on the famous fungal acne blog posted here and had my daughter try a few things like OTC antifungal cream and Nizoral masks. They helped a bit in places but the majority of her face was covered with acne—sandpapery closed comodones, red patches, dry patches, pustules—the only somewhat clear spots were along her jawline. It was just a mess and nothing was making a dent. So, a month ago I revisited the blog and found a post about fungal safe products. Turns out most everything she was using was not safe. So, I decided to swap out her products. I got her Selsun Blue normal-oily shampoo for her hair and face, Pantene daily moisture renewal conditioner, and Neutrogena hydro boost moisturizer. The products were basic, readily available, and according to the blog, free of most of the ingredients that feed fungus. She started using them and immediately the oiliness went away in her hair and on her face. After a few days, the red patches were clearing up and new pustules weren’t forming. She still seemed to have lots of closed comedones, but during week two and three we did a mild glycolic acid peel, and this week, she did a little manual exfoliation with a wash cloth. So much dead skin just came off, leaving clear polished skin. There is NO new acne. It’s all healing. There are some reddish marks that I’m sure will fade but it seems like we hit on the solution we’ve been seeking for years.I wish I had pictures to post. It honestly didn’t all look like the descriptions I’ve read of fungal acne, but she was getting some flaky red patches around her nose and mouth and she had the bumpy texture, so I figured at least some of it had to be fungal. Turns out it was all related to some fungal overgrowth because the Selsun Blue seemed to do the trick.I hope our experience can help someone out there who’s struggling. My daughter has had some tough high schoolyears but her self confidence is coming back and it’s such a relief to see.
