Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey Everyone! This post is to review Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol // Olehenriksen Truth Serum // Boscia Cactus Water MoisturizerMy name is Cora and I'm here to post skincare product reviews! This is my first ever post to the community so I thought I'd give a little background on who I am and why I love this! This year when I turned 26, my skin took a turn for the worst. My skin is combination with dry cheeks and an annoyingly oily t-zone. I have light olive skin and a couple years prior, I had to switch from my Clinique regime as it was too harsh. I was using their toner and moisturizer but it was honestly just stripping all of my oils and causing my skin to become very dry and flakey. Shortly after, I couldn't stop breaking out. I realized that my skin is very sensitive and that most products out there were just too aggressive for me.Once I started using Cetaphil as my daily face wash, I noticed the flakiness stop. However, just a face wash wasn't enough. My skin still looked dull and tired. Finally, my addiction to skincare products began!! At this point I've probably tried up to 60 products with varying brands. And then it came; the epiphany! Yes, I love reviews as much as the next girl. Actually I panic if I'm in Sephora and my app won't load because I'm the co-dependant type. LOL but for real let's get this party started. There's no reason why my paying full price for one product shouldn't benefit loads of guys and gals everywhere.Something to note - When I decided that I wanted to start a new regime, I did some heavy research. Clinique is a reputable brand with great products- it just did not work for my skin type. Did you know that the collagen molecule is too big to pass through the skin tissue? PS I'm not a biology expert but that little fact saved me from spending too much on topical collagen products.Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic + RetinolI chose a topical Retinol because through all of my research, it seems that retinol is the only proven molecule to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and help accelerate skin renewal. It is also suppose to help with uneven textures which I was experiencing big time. I was honestly really nervous to try it though. I mean, I mentioned that my skin is sensitive right?? I had read tons of reviews that said that Retinol just made them break out and that it caused more harm than good. On the other hand, I read tons of reviews that went over the importance of introducing it slowly. Basically your skin really needs time to adjust.Potency: All Retinol products have a different percentage of retinol and it's better to start slow. Dr. Dennis Gross doesn't actually list how much of the active ingredient is present BUT - when I purchased this, the woman who helped me said she actually used to work for his company and that this particular product contains .8%. But what does that mean?? Well, most retinol products that I've found are anywhere from .5 - 1.5% retinol. Knowing at least that much, I felt better purchasing this one. It's important to work your way up so to start, you only want to use this product a few times a week. Eventually you can buy a product that is more potent, once you've adjusted your skin to it. Oh and also, retinol makes your skin more susceptible for sun damage so it's important to use a daily sunscreen.Review: Oh my glob! Oh my glob! Why did no one - NO ONE - tell me how amazing this stuff is??? Okay, firstly, this product is in an airtight dark brown container. Retinol is a highly reactive molecule and if it's exposed to sunlight or air it can straight up just lose its potency. There's a little cap over the pump so I don't have to worry about things getting messy when I throw this in my overnight bag (because I take it everywhere.) The bottle is also amazing because - let's see if I can explain this right - there's an inside compartment so as you use the product, the inside compartment moves up if that makes sense. Basically it's showing you how much you've used and it makes it easier to dispense once you get close to the end. Every last bit of this product is going on my face ya'll. The product itself is a dull yellow orange color. This the first product that I put on my face after I've washed it at the end of the night and dried it. You don't want to put this on a wet face because it penetrates allllllll the way down into that pretty little skin of yours. Anyway I use a good full pump of this, let it sit for about ten minutes and then follow up with a nice moisturizer. Don't get it on your lips or in your eyes. Overall, this has been a saving grace. I promise this next statement isn't a lie: I have had three pimples in the last 9 months. That's it, three. Two of which were those TERRIBLE under the skin kind that hurt like hell. But basically retinol brings the infection of pimples to the surface of the skin so those were gone after two days at most. After the first day they didn't even hurt anymore. Also, since retinol accelerates skin renewal, if I would have picked a pimple (I'm not saying I did) the skin healed within two days. Anywho, retinol is my best friend. My skin looks so much brighter and just the difference in acne alone, retinol is a must for aging skin. One last thing to note about retinol is that I wax my eyebrows and it's important to stop using the retinol a few days before your next scheduled wax as you don't want to pull your skin off.Olehenriksen Truth SerumThis is the third full sized serum that I've purchased in the last year. Serums are good for a lot but usually they are active in vitamin C. This particular serum is offered in two sizes so you can start with a smaller one first to see if you like it. I just went for the large bottle because, I mean am I not going to use it? This serum specifically says that it's Collagen boosted with True-C Complex but to be honest I'm not sure what that means. Drop a comment below if you are a bit more familiar. The product itself smells amazing... maybe some kind of citrus? The consistency is almost gel like but still more of a liquid and it's translucent orange.Review: This product isn't bad, but it's not not my favorite serum. I do like how quickly it absorbs into my skin but it doesn't leave it feeling as soft as other serums that I've tried. I notice that if I do use too much, it'll leave my skin feeling tacky and the oil will build up quite a bit after that so make sure you're using just enough. Also, the pump on this dispenses WAY more than you need so if you aren't careful, your bottle will be gone before you know it. I wouldn't buy again but I think it's a great serum for beginners who are trying to balance the moisture in their regime. I think my skin is just a bit more needy than some.Boscia Cactus Water MoisturizerOkay let me start by reminding ya'll of my combination skin. I have serious struggles when it comes to my t-zone because it's so oily. Like, foundation broken up around my nose after a few hours, use an entire oil pad in five seconds kind of oily. Sigh. Because of this, I've had so many issues finding a good moisturizer. Obviously I won't touch oil based ones but I also hate heavy cream based moisturizers because they just leave my face looking dirty. Then it's like I have to beg my setting powder to fix it? No no. This moisturizer is infused with "Queen of the Night" cactus succulent and peptide complex. The container itself is a teal twist jar. It comes with the cutest little scooper so you can get the product out but I just use my finger.Review: Amazing. The moisturizer is clear and gel like. It absorbs into my skin immediately and leaves me feeling so hydrated! I promise this has a no oil feel and I'm obsessed with it. Usually even after applying a moisturizer, I'll have spots on my cheeks that catch my foundation because it's still a bit dry. This is the perfect base and it really brings my skin up a notch. I do find myself using probably about two pea sizes of product per application but I just can't get enough of this. The only thing I wish this product had was anti aging but I'm a customer for life. Using too much does NOT result in a greasy face and it's so affordable it's not even funny. I'm so happy I put back the Sunday Riley moisturizer and purchased this instead.Thank you to everyone who read the entire post!! Next time I'll be reviewing Kiehl's Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution, Biossance Rose Vegan Lip Balm, and Biossance Squalane Peptide Eye Gel.Please drop some knowledge in the comments!!xoxo future beauty guru
