[PSA] Skincare Product Tracking and Organization

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Not sure if this is interesting to anyone else, but I figured I’d put it out there for anyone who’s also a bit anal retentive and hella nerdy. Anyway, part of the fun for me in skincare is keeping track of all the little details. Two ways that I track my products are:1) By keeping count of how many applications I can get out of a product. It lowkey seems worthless, but I’ve found it to be super beneficial. The most obvious benefit is that I’m able to figure out the cost per application which can help me make better purchasing decisions; like if I were to consider repurchasing something that has a short shelf life, but, in the past, has taken me forever to finish and/or ends up leaving me with a lot of leftover product by the time it hits its expiration/best by date, then I can try to avoid that specific product. With that info, I’ve also been able to plan around specific sale events at retailers like Sephora - I can more easily figure out if I should hold off on buying something until there’s a sale, for example, and can get a more accurate sense of which products I can stock up on and realistically estimate how much I should buy to stock up without going ham and just buying like 5 of everything. The app I’ve been using is Tally (on iOS). I paid for the app to use all of the features, but what I love about it (other than keeping a running tally of various products), it also has time and date tracking which has helped me figure out what products I used on which nights should I forget. There are other apps that can keep a running tally that are cheaper or free, but most have fallen short of ideal for me, so purchasing Tally hasn’t been regrettable at all. Prior to using apps, I was literally keeping tally on the actual jar/bottle/package/etc. which was way more tedious and counting it at the end completely sucked.2) I also use an app called Airtable that I can track literally everything about the products I use - product names and brands, start/end dates, pH levels, target purposes and key benefits, formulation info, any conflicts/contraindications that exist between products, AM/PM routine info, shelf life estimates, which products I’ve used vs what I’m currently using, size, and price.I also have another tab within that spreadsheet to keep a list of which products I’d like to try in the future and some basic details on them (price, purpose, etc.).Then I have one more tab that’s dedicated to selfies and descriptions of my skin in that moment to track skincare progress - which not only keeps my selfies organized for before/after comparison, but gives me better insight into which product(s) that may be causing me issues.Again, none of this is necessary, but I love it and it helps me keep all of the information in order.tl;dr - I use two apps (Tally and Airtable) to track my skincare product application usage and information at a relatively granular level to maximize cost, efficacy, and, to some degree, safety. Tally is a paid app (but worth it, in my opinion) and Airtable is free - both are very well designed.
