Beauty Tips For Body Care
I just wanted to call your attention to an editorial in the New York Times today from a former Sephora employee, describing how abysmally she was treated as an employee and as a casualty of the coronavirus retail closures. I'm not surprised--I know that retail workers are treated horribly in this country by many large corporations--and I'm not sure that boycotts are always an effective or useful tactic. But I do know that in this moment, when companies are hurting and will be more attentive to customers and their complaints, raising our voices and demanding better treatment of employees from a company like Sephora may be more effective than ever. I know many of the people who frequent this subreddit are loyal Sephora shoppers, and I just wanted to bring some attention to this woman's experience and suggest that those who, like me, find it appalling write a quick note to the corporate overlords to note their disapproval. There's not really a good way in our world to be an ideal consumer--we're always going to be complicit in mistreatment of workers, until there's more widespread unionization or regulation from government to mandate paid sick leave, consistent hours, etc. I recognize that. But maybe if enough people make a stink, we can encourage one employer to change for the better--and maybe that's a good first start. Thanks for listening.
