[PSA] If you have "sensitive skin" but haven't talked to a derm about it... maybe you should.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I was recently diagnosed with mild rosacea, so I've seen my dermatologist a few times over the past three months to check up on it and figure out what meds/routine work best for me. I was there last week, and after we discussed my progress my derm asked if I had any other skin concerns before we end the appointment. I almost didn't say anything, but decided "why not" and told him that my very sensitive skin has gotten a little out of control lately. Any part of my body, including my face, can break out in an itchy rash at any time, and it has been getting worse the past couple months. I stopped wearing makeup and have been moisturizing my whole body every day but it hasn't helped much. I also said it probably wasn't a big deal and may just be because of my apartment heater or spring allergies or something. After describing the rashes and showing him a picture I took of one (by the way, I highly recommend taking pics of any physical ailment/anomaly for potential future medical use, it really does help your doctors), he told me to stick out my arm. I did, and he used his nail to lightly scratched my arm."yeah, you definitely have dermatographism."If y'all don't know what dermatographism is, it can also be known as "skin writing", where any pressure or scratch can make your skin break out in welts. People can write something on their skin with their nail and you can read it once it becomes raised. I was shocked when he said this because my brother actually *has* dermatographism, but my skin didn't look like his. My derm said that my case is just a different type or possibly just milder. I thought my skin turning so red was normal because I am pale. Turns out it's not normal.Luckily there is a simple treatment for the symptoms! All I have to do is take a shit ton of antihistamines. I haven't been itchy in days. DAYS, PEOPLE.My point is, if you suffer from sensitive skin that reacts to things but you can't pinpoint *what* it reacts to, you might benefit from seeing a derm. I consider myself very knowledgable about skin and skincare, but NEVER would have guessed that I have dermatographism. I thought it was eczema, or dry skin, or my moisturizer, or my heater, or my allergies... turns out it was literally anything and everything (lol). Not everyone with sensitive skin has a weird skin condition, but sometimes sensitive skin isn't just sensitive.
