And I say just don't do it as someone who was severely addicted to picking. I used to laugh at that kind of suggestion. You don't tell a drug addict to just quit using. But seriously, get serious about it. Write however many mirror notes you need to. Take down your mirror. Hide your picking tools (mine were tweezers and a little plaque scraper thing for your teeth... horrifying). Slap your face if you need to.This story came to mind because I've recently been healing a small popped pimple in my hairline, and it's in the same spot as a pick that almost took my life years ago:I popped a pimple at the top of my forehead. It was painful and I scratched at it with my nail to try and get deeper. This was actually much less intense than my normal picking sessions, which could last for hours at a time. Anyway, fast forward a few hours and it began to swell and was painful and red to the touch. I took several ibuprofen but they didn't touch the swelling. The next morning, my entire forehead was probably two inches out from the rest of my face. Imagine a beluga. Within the day, my entire face was swollen to the point where my eyes couldn't really stay open.I went to Emergency and when the doctor pushed his finger into my forehead, a massive dent was left. The fluid was just building and building. I was being pumped with antibiotics.I couldn't shower, I couldn't move. Every breath was agony and any slight movement caused pain to sear from my head to my toes. Eventually, after one week, the swelling had gone down enough to shower again. I was told that it was very close to having moved into my blood stream, which would have likely resulted in death. It was a staph infection. I still have a raised bump where the infection began, and it is a dicey area with lasting pain.Just PLEASE DO NOT PICK YOUR FACES, people. I wish I had a photo to share of that experience, but sadly I can't find it anymore. It was traumatic. Yeah picking leads to scars and scars suck, but dying sucks more I'm sure.Stay strong, I know what the addiction is like.Choose not to pick, just for today.
