[Skin Concerns] Can Benzoyl Peroxide cause permanent damage?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I used benzoyl peroxide for a year when I was younger. It burned my face, made it red, super dry..But I kept using it, because it was helping the pimples and I read that burning is normal.Years later my skin, on my cheeks specifically which is where I used it most, is permanently dry, orange peel texture, red marks from the occasional zit stay forever, and it has a plastic sheen look to it from being so dehydrated.I have such a good skin routine and it is just always like this.I don't know much about the mechanisms of Benzoyl Peroxide but could it be that it caused a permanent chemical burn or something, maybe a layer of scar tissue, or simply damaged my skin's maintenance mechanisms? Is that even possible?
