Beauty Tips For Body Care
Just another sunscreen review for you all! I'm on a search for my every-day HG, and I've come super close, but don't feel like I'm quite there yet. I decide to share with all of you, so perhaps if you're also on an SPF journey, you can decide what to try (or not to try) next. When I test out a new sunscreen, I always wear that SPF for 3-7 days to figure out what it does for my skin. In this first week or so, I also always measure out 1/4 tsp. All of these SPFs have now been worn in spring/summer and fall/winter in the NYC area (hot/humid in the summer, cold/dry in the winter). I can't remember what I paid for these and some were hard to look up, so the prices are *estimates.* Let me know if you have any questions or need any clarifications.Skin Type: Dry skin, especially around my eyes. I'm a very sweaty person in the summer heat though. Somewhat acne prone and typically not very sensitive. My entire eyes (like my actual eyeballs and the eyelids/skin around them) are EXTREMELY sensitive.Uriage Bariesun Lotion SPF 50+:Pros: This did not dry out my skin at all and I didn't feel like I needed a moisturizer underneath it, especially during the summer. It feels pretty good on the skin, though it takes some time to dry down. It's a tad bit greasy, but truly not that bad. When I wore it under make-up, I felt made me look "dewy." It also kept me super protected on a beach vacation to Florida. No burns or tans for me! This also comes in a 100 mL tube for a good price, which is awesome.Cons: This stings my eyes pretty badly :( It also would give me raised little pimples by the end of the day, but they were weird "pimples." They were typically gone by the next morning and I was ready to start fresh. I've never experienced anything like that before.Price: ~$25/100 mL ($0.25/mL)Overall score: 3/5 (TLDR: Burns eyes, causes break outs, but is dewy and offers great protection)La Roche-Posay Anthelios Shaka Fluid SPF 50+ (PPD 46):Pros: New-age filters and an AWESOME PPD. This is a pure liquid SPF, which I have never used before. I actually really like this format because it's so easy to actually put on a true 1/4 tsp. Also really easy to layer. It did not dry out my skin, though I wouldn't say it was moisturizing either. Definitely need my moisturizer underneath. It's dries down super quickly and while I wouldn't call it matte, it's not very greasy/dewy. This never burns my eyes or breaks me out (happy days!). This is my go-to SPF whenever I am spending time outside. I know that I can count on this to keep me protected and comfortable, even when I am sweating. HG for outside activities :)Cons: This comes in a tiny little bottle and it's pricey (though I would pay more for this SPF tbh). It's truly just pretty difficult to get in the US. If I could get this easier, I would probably wear this every day in the summer regardless of my activities.Price: ~$25/50 mL ($0.50/mL)Overall score: 4.5/5 (TLDR: price/availability is difficult, but offers great protection and is comfortable on skin)Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence SPF 50+ (PA ++++)Pros: This feels like everything I dream of an SPF feeling like. It's feels hydrating without moisturizer underneath, yet it somehow feels as if nothing is on my skin at all. It's beautiful. This does not burn my eyes (but it's also not waterproof, so I didn't wear it in environments where I'd be sweating/it would move easier.)Cons: This breaks me out and it is SO sad. (Note: I believe this has the same formula as the Purito Centella Green Level SPF, and there have been reports of people burning with it. I didn't wear this on long days outside, so I didn't experience this, but be cautious.)Price: ~$19/80 mL ($0.24/mL)Overall score: 3.5/5 (TLDR: causes break outs, questionable protection, but feels wonderful on dry skin)Canmake Skin Gel UV SPF 50+ (PA ++++)Pros: This is another wonderful feeling SPF. It feels like a lightweight moisturizer when it's going on and truly looks great under make-up. It has a dewy, beautiful finish and is a wonderful primer under make-up. It's the most esthetically pleasing of the bunch, so I tend to wear it on days when I'm "dressing" up or want to look more presentable (not often, thanks COVID). Does not burn my eyes at all or break me out. This really was so so closed to being a HG.Cons: This dries out my skin SO badly. After one day of wear, the skin around my eyes are dry and flaky (which happens to me sometimes). However, the skin around my mouth/nasal labial folds also gets dry patches that I can visibly see. This has never happened to me with another product besides Differin. So yeah. Sad. Also the bottle is TINY.Price: ~$13/40 mL ($0.32/mL)Overall score: 4/5 (TLDR: dries out my skin like no other, but feels and looks AMAZING)Australian Gold Botanical Face Sunscreen (Tinted) SPF 50 (PPD 19):Note: This is the WEIRDEST feeling SPF I have ever tried in my entire life. You'll either love it or hate it, but for the price, it's worth it to try it out.Pros: Besides old-age, pretty gross mineral SPFs, this is the first I tried, so I was pleasantly surprised that it feels pretty satiny going on and not at all sticky. It dries truly matte. This doesn't dry out my skin (see below), burn my eyes, or break me out! Yay! This can definitely double as light make-up as it really smooths out pores and covers redness on my face (see below). This also DOES. NOT. BUDGE. Like at all, it's incredible how well this stays in place even through sweat (and cleansing- this 100% needs a double cleanse). The price is amazing, it's easily accessible, and it comes in a nice 89 mL tube.Cons: This "dries" on the skin almost like a clay mask in a way. It leaves my skin feeling kind of tight, even when I'm sweating and put lots of moisturizer on underneath. I'm wondering if this would be better for someone with oily skin for that reason. Also, while this could definitely double as make-up for some, it's a bit too artificial looking on my skin. I have the original shade (they now have 3 different shades) and it's a bit too dark and fake-tan-esque on my fair skin. If they came out with even more shades, that would be awesome.Price: ~$16/89 mL ($0.18/mL)Overall score: 3/5 (TLDR: Interesting/tight feeling SPF, but it smooths out pores, doesn't budge, doesn't dry out my skin, and is an incredible price)Coola Classic Face Sunscreen SPF 50:Pros: Feels pretty decent on my skin and doesn't dry my skin out at all. Compared to US drug-store SPFs that I've used in the past, it feels really good. After using European and Asian SPFs, it doesn't really compare.Cons: This breaks me out, but only after wearing it 2 days in a row. This is also greasy, greasy, greasy. Combined with sweat, I look like a giant greaseball (so bad, that my boyfriend who has never once said anything about my skin told me I look greasy lol). This also burns my eyes after a day of wearing (similar to the Uriage). It's also a chemical American sunscreen, so it's pretty behind the times when it comes to protection/stability. This is also the most expensive sunscreen I'm reviewing and the ickiest. Sad.Price: $30/50 mL ($0.60/mL) YIKESOverall score: 1/5 do not recommend (TLDR: Breaks me out, is SUPER greasy, burns my eyes, and is really expensive, but is easily available in the US)Next up: EltaMD UV Daily and EltaMD UV Facial. Let me know if there are any SPFs you think I should try!
