Beauty Tips For Body Care
There seems to be a divide in the skincare community between people who use skincare products strictly because they have issues they want to fix and who couldn't care less about whether or not products are enjoyable to use as long as they work, versus people who look at skincare as a therapeutic part of their day and who DO care about how fun and relaxing the experience of using a product is.I think I fall somewhere in the middle, and today while I was organizing my skincare stuff, I noticed that my "useful" versus "therapeutic" products can be pretty easily divided just by product types and the ingredients in them. For my self-care products, I usually gravitate toward "natural" ingredients that aren't known for causing problems in most people and instead are widely considered to be beneficial. For my "useful" products, I tend to go for the ones with more scientific research behind them.Products I use for therapeutic/self-care purposes:Basically all wash-off masks I own. The only exception would be The Ordinary Peeling Solution, but I rarely use that anymore after starting tretinoin. I like slathering a mask on my face a couple of times a week and leaving it on while I drink tea or do some other relaxing activity. I especially enjoy masks that smell good like the I'm From Honey Mask — probably my favorite mask of all time, just because of the smell. While I do hope that my skin is able to absorb benefits of my masks and while I intentionally choose masks with relatively "safe" ingredients, I figure that I'm less likely to have a terrible reaction with a product I only leave on for a short period instead of one I'm leaving on for hours. Most of my toners, mists, and essences. This doesn't include exfoliating toners. I love using hydrating toners/essences with ingredients like green tea, rice, ginseng, mugwort, propolis, and other soothing ingredients. I think it's a nice way to include mostly benign ingredients into my routine. I love pressing the toners into my face and taking relaxed breaths — when the toners have soothing scents like green tea, it's even nicer. Some of my serums. While I do use serums with a lot of scientific research behind them, I also love using serums with more traditional ingredients. Similar to my wash-off masks and toners, I think serums can be a nice way to include things like honey and green tea in my routine, and they can be pretty relaxing to apply. I also enjoy looking at them on my vanity.Products I use strictly to fix problems:Exfoliants. Whether they're masks, toners, or serums, I'm not using exfoliants because they're fun and help me relax.Tretinoin. I mean, obviously, this is a prescription medication. I don't use any other kind of vitamin A products right now, but if I were to switch to something else, it also wouldn't be for a therapeutic experience or enjoyment.Sunscreens, cleansers, and moisturizers. I do appreciate when I find enjoyable and elegant formulations of these kinds of products, and there are certainly some cleansers that I find therapeutic to use, but for the most part, I see these kinds of products as just there to get a job done. I'm not really "playing around" with these.Certain serums/creams. If I'm trying to target things like hyperpigmentation or acne, I'm going to search for a product that has a lot of research behind it and is likely to show me RESULTS. I'm not concerned about elegant formulation, packaging, or the sensorial experience.Curious about what products you all tend to use mostly for enjoyment and relaxation versus concrete results.
