Beauty Tips For Body Care
Seeeing as everyone is thinking about sunscreens right now, I think it's worth reminding people that effective sunscreen is water resistant sunscreen. Sunscreens work via film forming - this is why sunscreen always say to apply 20 minutes before sun exposure - it's not to let filters "activate" or anything, it's so that they can spread out and form a film on your skin. If they aren't water resistant then your sweat can disrupt that film. And yes, we are all sweating, all the time, even if it isn't always noticeable.Unfortunately a lot of well-known cosmetically elegant sunscreens are not water resistant and are likely not as effective as you would hope. In fact they may be so cosmetically elegant BECAUSE they aren't water resistant - to be water resistant a formula normally has to be oil based, but that makes it more inclined to be greasy and heavy on the skin.Anyway, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, sunscreen should be these three things:SPF 30 or higherBroad spectrumWater resistant(https://www.aad.org/public/everyday-care/sun-protection/sunscreen/how-to-select-sunscreen)The first two seem pretty widely known, but I constantly see people recommending sunscreen that isn't water resistant, and I just wish more people knew about it.Hope this is of interest to some people. Drop sunscreen reccs in the comments. :DPS - I don't think wearing SPF when the UV index is 1 or 2 is healthy. The sun is involved in a lot of biochemical pathways in the skin (it's not just about vitamin D!); the aim should not be to stop the sun reaching your skin ever ever, just to prevent over-exposure.
