The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA review [review]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently acquired this product and find it pretty interesting and thought I'd do a review and share my thoughts. I was quite surprised that this wasn't very elegant in terms of application. When I got in the car after getting it, I swatched it on my hand and was surprised that it was quite opaque when rubbing it in. I didn't think much of it since swatching on your hand is nothing like applying to your face. But still, I was surprised since it didn't seem like a lotion at all (think CeraVe PM).I applied it later that night onto my face and was shocked that it was opaque on application. The best way I can describe it: You know when you apply a skincare product or moisturizer on top of a serum or other product that it doesn't get along with? And it kind of becomes opaque (sometimes soapy looking) and white and a little streaky? That's kind of what it was like. This sounds like a negative review so far but keep reading....I have used this moisturizer 6-7 times so far and I DO enjoy it. I have just figured out better ways to apply it. First of all, I think this applies much better on damp skin (like all moisturizers; but especially this one). I also think this moisturizer is best for when your skin is compromised (retinol or Tretinoin over-use... irritation from acids... etc). Think of this moisturizer as a lipid supplement. Is it the most elegant to apply? Not really. BUT, it does rub in eventually. You just have to keep working it in. Eventually it dries down and literally it looks like you are wearing NOTHING on your skin. Not even moisturizer. It does not look greasy or heavy at all. If anything it just looks and feels slightly waxy and has a satin almost matte appearance on the skin. It makes my face look healthy and "normal" (I personally don't love glowy products on my combo skin). I also used this product during the perfect time where my skin was recovering from a Tretioin application. My skin takes about 3 days to "recover" from a Tretioin application (yes, I'm still ramping up my frequency- I'm not able to use it nightly but I will eventually get there). This product has seemed to heal my skin faster and this product didn't sting at all which most products do when I'm using Tret.I do wish this product contained niacinamide, cholesterol, and actual ceramides. On The Ordinary website they state that this product contains "Ceramide precursors" but I don't understand why they wouldn't go ahead and throw in a Ceramide or two into the formula. I love the Cholesterol + Ceramide + Fatty acid trio in my moisturizers since I feel they nourish and repair the skin the best. So at least this contains fatty acids (linoleic and oleic) and the Ceramide precursors. But cholesterol+ceramides would've been a perfect addition. Other than those small complaints, this formulation is packed with skin-like and reparative ingredients and this is a HUGE BANG for your buck.So again- is this the most elegant moisturizer ever? No. But seriously... LOOK at that price! You almost can't complain given the insanely low price point. I personally think it's worth it to spend 15 more seconds blending in a moisturizer if it has bomb ingredients and a low price. It's also fragrance and irritant free of course.Plus, if you want to make the application process a little easier, just mix in a little bit of another moisturizer. My favorite to mix this with is CeraVe PM. Plus, I get my added niacinamide and cholesterol by doing that. And it blends in WAY easier. The ingredient combo mixing these two is absolutely bomb. Highly recommend.
