Beauty Tips For Body Care
Common wisdom seems to hold firmly that more acidic skin is less oily, and thus less acne prone. However, here's one study that suggests that men's skin is more oily, and more acidic, than women's skin, and that for women, more acidic skin means oilier skin. Here are some excerpts from the article (CL is referring to sebum casual levels):"The pH levels of the five facial sites, T-Zone, U-zone, and MFPH are compared between females and males in Fig. 1 (c and d). The pH levels of the five sites, T-zone, U-zone, and MFPH in the male popula-tions were significantly lower than those of the female population (p<0.001). The pH of the five studied sites differed significantly in both genders (p<0.001). In both populations, the pH levels of the T-zone were significantly lower than those of the U-zone (p<0.001).Among the five sites of the female population, CLs showed a significant negative correlation with pH for the forehead and chin. These results led to the significant negative correlations in the T-zone and MFSE/MFPH. In contrast, CLs were not signifi-cantly correlated with pH on any of the five studied sites in males. Finally, there was a significant negative correlation between CL and pH in only the female population and no significant correlation in the male population with a tendency towards a positive correlation."This goes against the conventional wisdom about skin pH and its correlation to oiliness. Experts, please weigh in here. What is the connection between skin pH and oiliness?
