[Acne] My Two Cents on Exercise Acne

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey all!I'm a relatively new user on this subreddit, and I want to offer up some thanks for all the helpful info I've come across. I'm not super good at formatting a post with tons of links and using all of your in-house acronyms, but I wanted to share a little bit of advice for people that might have issues similar to my own.I battled acne a lot through my late teens and very early twenties (I'm just about 24 now). Most of it was on my chest and my back, with my chest taking the brut of the acne beating. It's been called cystic, inflammation acne, severe, whatever.Years ago, I beat the thing by making a couple of changes in my diet. Eliminating dairy was the big step. At the time, I was a huge milk drinker...haven't had a drop of it since, though I can't resist indulging in some cheese on a sandwich every now and then. But recently, my acne resurfaced in similar propensity to when it was at its worst. It's been bad times. But the good news is that it's forced me to re-innovate my treatment regimen and eliminate the most offensive trigger of them all; standing sweat.Anyhow, I'm writing to share my thoughts on the acne of anybody who works out regularly. If this sounds like you...Work out regularlySweat a lotAcne on body (chest, shoulders, neck, back) but not on face...then this may be helpful.I've grown a little bit resentful of the whole "shower after you workout!" advice, because it isn't always the most practical thing to do.Realistically, there are going to be times where you don't finish your last rep or run your last mile and jump STRAIGHT into the shower. And if you go to a Crossfit gym like I do, they may not even have a shower facility at all.Plus, there is no "agreed upon window" for when you need to get in the shower. I've heard of people saying 20 minutes, an hour, immediately...well which is it? Hard to gauge. What I do know, thanks to SCA and its educated users, is that pityrosporum folliculitis is a likely culprit to your "body acne." Your skin is full of microorganisms, and this particular strain of yeast can get a steroid boost from pooled sweat and oil on your skin. Even if it's there for 10 minutes. If you're working out regularly, the problem will only compound. The root cause of your acne may just be that you're sweating and feeding the little buggers.Since I don't want ANYBODY to "not work out so hard" or stop doing what they enjoy, here's what's been working well for me so far.The Nobel Formula ZNP soap.Stridex Red boxCerave Renewing LotionMy new regimen is to IMMEDIATELY (as in, as soon as the workout is over) go into the bathroom, dab my skin with a soft towel, and give it a stridex treatment right off the bat. Then, you can loiter in the gym for a bit, clean up your machines, weights, talk to the cute girl/guy. Whatever.Once I'm home, I can hop in the shower and do a proper scrub with the Zinc soap, which is formulated to ensure that the yeast on your skin dies a glorious death :). I also find that it reduces any inflammation quite nicely.Once I'm out of the shower, rub on a little bit of Cerave lotion with the Salicylic acid formulated into it. Great moisturizer, and provides a little bit of insurance, with the SA working to stave off any new lesions that are even THINKING about appearing.Acne, unfortunately, has to be managed. What I've identified are the triggers for myself. Sweat and oil hanging out on my skin. I get them out of there as soon as I possibly can.I don't have before/afters right now, because I'm a little self conscious of how it's been looking lately :).But if this helps out one person, I'm happy. I just wanted to submit something and give back a little bit. Thanks for reading!
