[Skin concern] Best method (least amount of scarring) for removing facial mole?

I'd like to get a facial mole (about the diameter of a pencil eraser, maybe a mm or two smaller) removed by a dermatologist. What are the best methods? I don't want to get a mole removed, only to be left with an even bigger scar... There is a lot of conflicting information out there, and I'm unable to find a definitive answer.
