[Research] Is there any point to using those Peel off masks?

These thingsI don't know what they are called but I remember when I was a young kid and I got into my older sisters makeup cupboard and remember this being extremely fun to peel off.What is it actually meant to do and is it worth it if I already follow a basic routine which I am pretty happy with?
