[Product question] Do clay masks still work if they don't dry completely?

Just kind of curious about the science of clay masks, bentonite mixed with ACV specifically but I'm assuming the answer would apply to clay masks in general. I just used a bentonite clay mask and apearently applied it more think on my cheeks than my forehead and chin. So, my forehead and chin started tightening before my cheeks did and I washed it off shortly after and now am wondering if it did anything on the spots that didn't completely dry.
