Beauty Tips For Body Care
I know I know I know. I've been told over and over by different people DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE USE BAKING SODA ON YOUR FACE. I've read lots of articles, posts in this sub/other subs, and studies about why I shouldn't use baking soda on my face. But it just seems to work so well for me....I don't get it. I worry that I'm doing damage that I don't see, but I don't know what the alternatives are. I have had the most success with my baking soda concoction than anything else. Some background: I'm a 30 year old female, I have dry acne prone skin. My acne is due to me having hypothyroidism (I am medicated for it), the consensus with my doctor is that acne will be a thing for me it's just a matter of how to deal with the breakouts when it happens. I also have eczema, mostly on my hands (which I am able to regulate quite easily), and a bit on my face around my nose. My skin tends to be on the sensitive side, and also scars quite easily, not just on my face....the skin everywhere on my body scars easily. I also get cysts on my face at times, lots of swelling under the skin but never coming to a head. I've tried tons of over the counter cleaners/toners/scrubs, etc. Nothing seemed to fight breakouts for me. I used proactive for about 3 years. It helped with the breakouts, but it left my skin very irritated, blotchy and red, and my acne always looked swollen and purple. So I stopped using it.I use a mixture of baking soda and oatmeal. I make this at home by grinding up the oatmeal with a mortar and pestle using a bit of sea salt to help the process. I then mix the oatmeal at a 1:1 ratio with baking soda. When it's time to wash my face I add water to my mixture to make a paste and then wash my face with it, rinsing thoroughly. I then use a toner that I make with about 2/3 witch hazel, and 1/3 apple cider vinegar ... I dilute this mixture with distilled water. My current routine: I use the baking soda/oatmeal mixture, followed by the witch hazel/AC vinegar mixture twice a day (morning and night). In the morning after the toner has dried I apply a face moisturiser for sensitive skin. I get some slight burning after I wash my face, mostly where the eczema is, but it goes away within a few minutes. Using the moisturiser once a day completely gets rid of any redness and tightness for me, and leaves my skin smooth. I've been doing this for about 3 years now. I still get acne (which I knew I would because of my thyroid), but the breakouts are less extreme; don't swell and turn purple and less over all pimples/black heads. My breakouts go away much quicker, and my face is not red and irritated all the time. I also only get cysts every few months instead of getting them weekly like I did while using other products and proactive. Please don't crucify me for my routine, I am aware that it is widely agreed upon that baking soda is not good for skin. I'm not condoning or recommending this treatment for others. I just don't understand why something that is so bad works so well for me, and thought maybe others could offer some insight. I'm very open to suggestions and alternatives that aren't expensive.
