Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi SCA,I am a 24 year old male, and I have been struggling with moderate acne for about 5 years. For some scope and context, in my opinion, it has never been a problem, just an annoyance. A couple of years ago I discovered this subreddit and started a routine of cleanser, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and moisturizer. That helped a bit, but I was still getting about 3-5 new pimples (both cystic and whiteheads) a week. After a while of doing that, I decided to see a dermatologist two months ago to get solutions, because I felt my acne was starting to affect my confidence, and in turn my professional and personal development. After seeing my derm, she said that she would like to start with an oral antibiotic (Doxycycline Mono) and a topical gel (Epiduo Forte, which has 0.3% adapalene and 2.5% benzoyl peroxide) before moving to something "more drastic like Accutane." (her words, not mine). This has really dried my skin out. For the last two months, my skin honestly feels less healthy (due to the dryness), and I am still getting new pimples at the same rate as before the prescriptions.I have a check up with my derm later this week, and I am pretty sure she will put me on something "more drastic" like Accutane, as we discussed in my initial derm visit. My question for those of you who have experience with Accutane - is it worth it? I have been reading about side-effects, and people on this sub who attribute their IBS to Accutane, and it has me a bit concerned. I do want clear skin, but I am not sure I want to pay for it for the rest of my life.TL;DR: Will likely get an Accutane prescription, I'm scared of the side effects. What was your experience with accutane and it's side effects?
