Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi guys, I'm looking to add some actives or just additional helpful products to my routine from The Ordinary, but obviously based on the product descriptions every single product sounds great. Like of course I want my skin to be moister, brighter, smoother, younger, blah blah blah, but I'm not down for a 25-step routine. Thanks in advance for help narrowing it down! Hope it helps someone else as well!Skin concerns - I'm 22 and wondering if it's time to start thinking about preventative anti-aging, at the moment I have the start of a fine wrinkle under my eyes which I'd like to nip in the bud. I don't have acne. My skin isn't particularly dry, but it's pretty thin and delicate, so I could probably stand to hydrate and protect it a bit more, especially with winter indoor heating. My main concern is with redness. My dad, grandmother, and I all have faint red patches on our lower cheeks that appear to be made of red capillaries and worsen with age. I think my dad's derm considered it to be mild rosacea but I'm honestly not sure. I do flush all over my cheeks after exercising and getting drunk, but I can't really tell if it's more than the average person. The blotches are always there whether I'm flushed or not.Current RoutineMorningrinse with water and maybe witch hazelCeraVe AMEveningif wearing makeup, remove with Snow River Wood Oil mixed with Cromollient SCECeraVe Hydrating CleanserVanicreamCouple times a month I'll use a St. Ives Lactic wipe if things are feeling bumpy or do a mask with green clay if things are clogged but that's pretty much it. I used to be on Spironolactone which I worried was drying/thinning skin (hypochondriac), but I may go back on it.Based on this, what Ordinary products would you recommend? Ideally I'd add no more than 2 products to my daily routine, although if there are some that can be used on an 'as needed' basis, I'd love to try them!Ones I've been specifically looking at:Retinoid/Retinol - They have two of these -- not sure of the difference. Is it worth it to start using retinol at age 22, with all the side effects? I'd probably have to increase my sun protection, right now Cerave AM in the morning is all I use with no additional sunscreen. Also, can you use a retinol less frequently (once a week?), or does it have to be daily to work?Niacinamide - Is supposed to decrease "redness", but what do people mean by "redness" and how does it work? How does its redness-reducing effects differ from that of Azelaic acid, for instance? FWIW Cerave AM has niacinamide, and I've noticed it softens my skin more than plain Cerave, but can't say it's done much for my redness.Vitamin C - They have a bunch of different formulations of this too, which confuses me immensely, but I guess the one with HA sounds good? Is this a better anti-aging choice to start with for someone my age because it's milder?Lactic Acid - I've had good experiences with the St. Ives pads and I'd like to up the percentage, of course sun protection also becomes a concern with this.Azelaic Acid - Also supposed to reduce redness (hopefully my "type" of redness), so I'm leaning towards buying this. But is this also considered an AHA? Does it work as an exfoliant similarly to lactic acid? It would be great to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.Hyaluronic Acid - They have this by itself as well as added to other serums. I'd probably use this in the morning especially in winters because Cerave Am is not really all that hydrating, is it worth it?All the oils - Because... why not? Anyone had good experiences with these?Alpha Arbutin - Even after reading all about this ingredient on ScA I still don't really get what it does, but then again I've never understood what precisely people meant by 'uneven skin tone', 'dark spots', hyperpigmentation, etc. I'm assuming 'hyperpigmentation' refers to old acne scars and such, which I don't have much of.Caffeine - Correct me if I'm wrong, but the effects of this are temporary, right? It temporarily plumps up your wrinkles under your eyes until it wears off? Either way I'm interested in this one too.If you have praises to sing about any of the products I didn't list, please share as well!!
