Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am a 33-year-old woman with fair skin, brown hair, and green eyes. I've always had combination skin, and as an adult, I have gone through periods of bad cystic acne, almost always on my chin and around my mouth. I have PCOS but I am thin (5'8", 130 lbs.).When a round of antibiotics in January did nothing to clear my skin, I decided to strip all harsh, prescription medications from my routine and just take it easy for a while to see if my skin could balance itself out. Miraculously, it did! Here's a before & after. It's not perfect, and there are still scars that are healing (particularly on my cheek, which is unusual for me), but the frequency and intensity of my breakouts have gone WAY down. Here's my routine ...Medications and supplements: * Mirena IUD * Levothyroxine * Prozac * Multivitamin * Fish oil * Probiotic * Magnesium * Zinc picolinate * Shot of ACV in the morning * Spearmint teaHygiene: * Wash AM and PM with gentle cleanser (either a zinc bar in the shower, Cerave foaming facial cleanser, or Himalaya Herbals neem foaming face wash) * Paula's Choice 2% BHA daily * Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay weekly * Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch at night as a spot treatment - these things are a godsend! * If a zit has popped, I cleanse it with hydrogen peroxide and/or rubbing alcohol * If my skin is dry, I use EPO (evening primrose oil) or Olay Total Effects Feather Weight Moisturizer with SPF15 * Aquaphor or lanolin (Bag Balm) lip balm * SLS-free toothpaste (Sensodyne) * Wash my hair every other day with Neutrogena T-Gel or Dr. Bronner's * Rinse my nighttime mouth guard daily; brush weekly; bleach disinfect monthly ... I'm a drooler, though, so I replace my pillowcase weekly * When wearing makeup (maybe once or twice a week), I moisturize and then apply Essential Minerals powder and clean my brushes once or twice a monthFor those of you out there who have struggled for YEARS (I'm talking nearly two decades at this point) with cystic, hormonal acne, just know that it can get better, and sometimes by unexpected means!THANK YOU, SCA, for all of your help, support, advice, and encouragement!!! This sub has been life-changing!
