Beauty Tips For Body Care
TLDR; My oily skin is out of control. Feel free to share what works for you. I recommend reading so you can see what my probs are and things I've tried. Finally decided to post here because this seems like a good community filled people going through the same things. I'll try to be brief. Also, i'm gonna talk about everywhere that my skin is affected, so it may get a little graphic. But hey, I'm tired of my skin problems, so I have to be completely honest.HISTORY I am a 23 year old male. My terrible acne and oily skin begin around 13, when I started puberty. Every kind of treatment, prescription or otherwise, that my derm would prescribe for me didn't help at all. At 14, I went on accutane for 5 months. It helped a great deal with the acne and oilyness, and I stayed clear for ~3 months after ending the treatment. However, the acne and oily skin came back. It was never as bad as before taking accutane, but I still lived out the next 7.5 years struggling to better my bad skin, never finding a good solution. I dealt with acne on my face, chest, neck, and back, clogged pores all over my nose and chin, and extremely oily skin. Recently, after I turned 22, I decided to use accutane for a second time. I went into it very nervous of side effects, so I had a very weird schedule - I started the first month at a very low dose, and I slowly increased each month, ending the last month on 80mg a day. It wasn't a week after I quit this previous round that my oilyness and some pimples came back, which is NOT the way accutane normally works... my theory is that I should have taken the full 80 or even 100 for all 5 months.CURRENT CONDITION Today marks about 12 weeks since I quit my second round. All of these problems with oily skin had gone away when I was taking the accutane, and I was happier than ever. My face is so oily. It takes 20-30 minutes after a shower (water not too hot, cleanser doesn't overdry skin, use good moisturizer with green tea for oily skin) to build up a good oil slick. There's no stopping it. Even my eyes (eyelids and surrounding areas) and ears (inside and behind the ears) have a buildup of oil. My scalp is insanely oily. I use a good, moisturizing, anti-dandruff shampoo and let it sit, yet my scalp is slick and smells as if I haven't shampoo'ed in days after ~6 hours of showering. Also, one problem that always REALLY bothered me is having syringoma on my penis shaft (told you, graphic). This is apparently very rare, and took a little bit of digging online to even find what it was called. This problem actually went away with the accutane, which was a pleasant surprise. But, of course, now it's back. Tea tree and castor oil do not help it. The ONLY thing that has improved since my second course was the oil on my chest, back , and neck. Of course, I'm even beginning to see this come back as I stay longer off the medicine.WHAT I'VE TRIED AND MY CURRENT PLAN I spend so much time just looking for ANY new possible solution to regulate my sebum production. I've tried different vitamin regimens, I've used controlled systems of washing, toning, moisturizing, and I've even cleaned up my diet to contain 100% healthy foods and no added sugars for several months. NOTHING CHANGES. I recently went to the Dr to get blood tests done, looking for hormone/vitamin irregularities that could have cause the problems all these years. I'm not sure if she looked for all the right things, but the vitamins (A, D, and E), my testosterone, and even my thyroid test came back normal. My testosterone was even a bit low for a 23 year old male. I really have 0 clue what could be causing oil besides absolutely shitty, inferior genetics. I'm going back to my derm this Friday... we are going to talk about another round of accutane, 80-100mg a day this time. However, I'm really hoping to show him my test and talk extensively about other solutions, because taking a 3rd round of accutane only to have my problems reappear afterwards would not be good for my mental health. Not to be dramatic, but I really do feel like a subpar human being, and my fluctuating skin is the source of a lot of mental anguish. So, please comment anything at all. I'm trying to gather as much info as possible before I go back to the derm. Tell me what works for any of you with oily skin. Tell me if you have the same problems as I do, or even worse. Feel free to ask about anything that I've heard of or tried. And of course, thanks for reading.
